Okay, the dollars were minuscule and the tasks minor. But Gene's staff accomplished the job in less than 30 minutes from the time I arrived--at roughly 3 PM on a Friday afternoon. I'm a customer for life.

They are very fair and honest. I didn't have any issues since they did the service.

We were very satisfied. He is very nice and honest.

We had our brakes replaced. Gene is awesome! He explains everything and is a straight shooter. We could have probably had our brakes done cheaper at a jiffy lube, but I would question the quality. Go to Gene if you want someone you can trust!

I've never been so satisfied with an auto repair service experience. Even though Gene has a few fellows doing the work, he has complete control of the diagnosis and repair work and everything else going on in the shop with the most pleasant personality along with a total sense of expertise. He'll take all of your phone calls, from beginning to end. He claims not to leave the shop from opening to close and appears to be on top of, and in control of, your auto's repair process. He's a no B.S. kind of guy and yet the most accommodating in every aspect of his dealings, at least he was with me. It also appears that his employees really enjoy working for, and highly respect him, is a very positive sign for me when I sense it.
After our dealings, I felt that not only is he a great person to do business with, but seems to have that rare quality that made me feel that I was dealing with a close friend, from beginning to end.
SO ENOUGH ACCOLADES ABOUT GENE HIMSELF.... let me get on with the details of the service.
My initial reason for seeking him out (on Angie's L.) was that I had a slow but constant oil leak. I was also concerned about my brakes, hoses and a few other things, not because there were any noticeable problems, but because they hadn't been addressed or worked on, for a long time. He checked my major concerns (WITH ME AT HIS SIDE... which is rare), with the car up on the lift.
Incidentally, before going in for this service, I had my FILTHY undercarriage and engine STEAM CLEANED so problems could have a much better chance of being detected. This I had done at Doctor Detail, an AUTO DETAILING detailing service in Costa Mesa, CA... another great experience that you can check on my Angie's review.

Among the services performed (for my $1,300) where: 1. Repairing of my FEW oil leaks 2. Replacement of front brake pads and front warped brake rotors, water pump, timing belt, thermostat, roller bearings, engine front seals, along with a few other minor, but important items. There were a few other potential repairs that were borderline but not serious and could be put off for quite awhile and that might never develop into problems. This probably saved me hundreds of dollars because of Gene's integrity, and I know from lots of experience, that other shops would have encouraged me (by sometimes using fear tactics) to take care of unnecessary issues, in order to and quot;PAD THE BILLand quot;, which unfortunately (to my understanding), is very common in this industry, especially to women and men who appear to know little or nothing about the working of their autos. and quot;EASY MARKSand quot;!!
My car needed to be kept overnight in order for the work to be completed, but on the morning of the second day, it was noticed that my front right tire was going flat. After checking for the leak, they found it was only a valve stem problem. Gene had it taken a few doors down to the tire store and had the part replaced, of which I don't think I was charged and the leak could have led to a major inconvenient or even serious situation, had I been faced with an unexpected flat in the near future.
One of the things that I was most impressed with that I'd never had happen in my 50+ years of dealing with auto repairs, was that when I arrived to pick up my car, Gene put on his counter a box of ALL of my old damaged and worn parts and showed and explained exactly what the problems were with each. He also answered all of my questions in a way that was easy to understand for the non-technical person that I am.
After this personal experience, my thought is that if you are searching for a new auto repair service, that it would be a MAJOR MISTAKE, not to give Gene's a try. Let me warn you though... because of the above discription of the service that I'm sure he gives to all of his customers, you will probably have to wait a couple of weeks for your appointment time because his business is booming and it's not a large shop, but WELL WORTH THE WAIT, in my opinion!

Our 2003 Yukon Denali was making an odd thumping and sometimes rubbing sound, which came from the rear axle. Took it to Gene's mostly because of his excellent reviews on Angie's List. He immediately diagnosed the problem as the parking brake, which had disintegrated due to misuse. Gene informed us of the price to repair, which was very reasonable. He also was very honest with us and told us that it was not a necessary or mandatory fix and that we could always repair it at a later date. He inspected the regular brake pad and informed us of it's estimated lifespan. All this for no charge! We paid for the oil change and were very happy with the service. Excellent service from an honest mechanic who didn't try to nickel and dime us. I've found our new auto mechanic and will definitely be returning to Gene's for all of my future repairs. Thanks Gene!

Excellent work. Fair prices. Only charges for the work that is really required, unlike some of the dealers.

I dropped the car off and they called me when there were issues that needed to be discussed. All the work was done on the same day and I didn't have to wait longer than I expected.

The service went very well. The auto shop was clean and organized. The employees were helpful. Gene himself explained what he was going to do before he did it. The service was great and I would highly recommend them.

I took my car to him because he had very good rating on Angie's List. He was very sweet. He was very good. He turned off the seat belt warning light. He said it might have been a fluke. He asked me that if it came back on, to come and see him. He would tell me what to do. He didn't charge me for that part of it. The price was reasonable. My husband is going to take his car in there shortly.

As always, the experience was outstanding from start to finish. It's nice to have a mechanic you can trust.

Overall, it went extremely well. Gene and his team our knowledgeable, courteous and personable. I highly recommend Gene's Auto.

My daughter's car had noisy breaks, needed an oil change and had some other minor issues. I did not know any places for auto service since I live in Northern California. I found Gene's Auto Repair via Angie's List.
We were met by the owner who was extremely nice and helpful. The owner took in the car right away and promised to call us with the findings and the cost.
The owner called us back and explained what they had found. The breaks needed replacement and the car was due for an oil change. Some of the other items would be rather expensive and the owner explained what they were and that continuing driving without repair would not cause any damage to the car or impact its performance. I already knew the items since the auto repair station we normally go to had explained the same.
However the owner pointed out that the tires were cracked from the sun and if it was his daughter, he would not take the risk. I knew the tires were ready for replacement so when I explained to the owner I did not know any tire stores in the area, he offered to drive the car to a tire shop and he would pay for it and charge my card without any mark-up fee. I called a tire shop, looked into the tire prices and decided which tires to get. I then informed Gene's Auto Repair.
The repair of the car and tire replacement was done very fast. We picked up the car at Gene's Auto Repair and the owner explained to my daughter some tricks of starting the car when it was cold.
The owner of Gene's Auto repair went above and beyond of what is expected when you send your car in for repair. He was also very conservative and did not suggest any repairs that were not needed at that time. I truly believe we found one of the best Auto Repair Services in Southern California. It is good to know my daughter can go to Gene's Auto Repair when she need her car serviced while attending college far away from home.

Excellent service, quickly done and fully explained.

My experience was very good. Gene is both personable and professional, and despite my car needing more work than I had hoped, his shop handled it all. He took care of getting my truck taken to a transmission shop, getting the work done, and then the regular maintenance, and all in far less time than the original estimate. It's certain that I'll be using him again for my regular maintenance needs.

Called in, made appt for next morning. Work done and completed in an hour.

All that everyone says on here is correct. You can take your car here and be sure you are getting a square deal and quality service.

We came in under the original budget even after I added several services after the original quote. The service was done in a day and Gene stayed late (7:30PM) so he could keep his word as to getting the repairs completed on that day.

If you are looking for a mechanic whom you can trust so you know that every dollar is going to a needed fix done the right way, then hire Gene as your mechanic!

Service was completed as promised, they are very accommodating, will definitely use them again.

Everything went exactly as expected. I went in because my radiator fan was making lots of noise and sometimes not working. Gene only replaced what needed it. The trim around the door handle was cracked in two, and he took the time to take it apart to see what it needed and showed me why the whole handle was attached to the trim so the whole assembly needed to be replaced. Instead of having to go to the dealer for an expensive fix, Gene ordered it wholesale from his supplier and only charged me his cost. I was very appreciative of his thoughtfulness.

Overall outstanding . No complaints; None.

I found this company here on AL and took my elderly Mother's car, (1987 Mitsubishi), here to have her brakes checked out. I knew she had been having several other problems with the car but, because she is on such a limited Social Security income, she has let things go due to lack of money for maintenance and repairs. I left the vehicle with Gene and asked him to inspect the additional things I knew needed repair and to give me an estimate.

When Gene got back to me after a couple hours, he gave me a laundry list of repairs needed and took it one step further by looking up the Blue Book value of the vehicle to see if the high cost to repair everything, (a little over $2,000.00), was worth it. Turns out the dang car is listed low Blue Book at $600-$800.00! Being as honest as he is, he turned away the business rather than take advantage. Not only that, when he met my Mom, he displayed an added amount of kindness and did not charge us for the time he spent inspecting the vehicle.

The icing on the cake for this amazingly kind and thoughtful man is he informed us of a State program where my Mom could retire her vehicle and they paid her $1,500.00 for her car. This has allowed her to be able to afford a replacement vehicle and, if for no other reason than this, Gene's Auto Repair is an amazing find.
