The one thing I will give him was that he was exactly on time.
From the start he was huffy, rude, and derogatory to my wife and those at my store. My wife presented him the drawings - approved and stamped by the city - that outlined the work to be done. Right away he told my wife that if I did not arrive ASAP he was leaving and was not performing the work.
Luckily I was one block away and rushed over to our shop. Upon talking to Jim he called us 'cheap', told us we had 'wasted his time' and that the permits from the cit were meaningless. He continued to act like a horses a** and left. I was furious and now in a very bad position.
I found another WONDERFUL contractor to complete the work!
In the end DONT USE JIM WAS HERE.
Jim was Here handyman has provided a variety of services provided drywall services in my home. Not only is his work horrible; he charges on a per hour rate and absolutely gouges. Do not be fooled; he will absolutely soak you on charges and he changes the rules of the game without telling you up front. He will come up with convenient "game" change rules to add additional charges.
Example: He charged $81.50 for putting on an interior door knob. The door was already up; the hole was pre-cut and I purchased the door knob. He charged 45 minutes and an additional service fee of $25 for gas and materials (I provided the door knob) because the visit was less than $75. The actual time he spent in my home was 30 minutes; 15 minutes of his time was spent on writing up the invoice. I was charged for 45 minutes.
Examples:
His drywall repairs are absolutely horrible; I would love to provide you pictures which would show how poorly these repairs were done. One repair was so poorly done that I had have that portion of the ceiling cut out to fix it. It was so rough that we could not have the damage sanded out to a smooth finish so there we had no other choice other than to cut out the damage. We have had several drywall repairs which were never finished. I could never understand why Jim felt these repairs were acceptable. He certainl would not have accepted the quality of work in his own home. Who the heck doesn't finish the work? I can provide pictures to anyone who would like to see his work.
Electrical work is not to code. We will have to incur several thousand dollars to re-do these projects. He also likes to use plates over holes instead of repairing them. Perhaps it is because he does not perform drywall repairs well. He also put in a cable line about 12 inches in the ceiling. It absolutely looks horrible. We are trying to sell our home and the realtor said we would have to get this fixed. Its a hole not at the corner of the ceiling, but 12 inches in one direction off the mark and 6 inches the other direction. Who the heck does this? I also had him put lights up outside my home; I already had flood lights that I wanted to use on the side of my home. Despite the fact that I specifically asked for my lights, he took them. I sent a text immediately after the repair and asked for the old lights. He never responded despite many....many requests.
We also had him put in wood floors. Given his business model of $75 per hour and his eagerness to gouge people, I'll let you come to your own conclusion, but suffice to say, it was really....really....really expensive.
Please note that he absolutely will not give you an estimate. He just says that not how he works; he says he charges by the hour. He will overcharge you at every opportunity.
I kept him around because my husband really liked him as a person, but even he could see we were getting sub-par work and that we were being overcharged over and over again. I am a fair person and I wanted to give Jim every opportunity to do better; it just never got any better.
