HI-TECH TERMITE CONTROL

Both the estimator/inspector and tech who performed work were professional, personable and seemed knowledgeable about the work needed. It was determined that the termites in the engineered hardwood floors (installed 3 years ago, over concrete slab), probably were in the flooring when it was installed. Very tiny holes were drilled between planks, to reduce visability, into which a chemical (Altriset? )was injected. Then, the area was treated with microwave "treatment". Attic treatment was done with more standard, non-toxic chemical (BoraCare? ) . Since I live in a townhome, tenting was not an option, so am hoping the treatment will provide some protection for a period of time. The service includes 2 years of coverage, as/if needed.

Perfect, Ray Wurm is a "Ph. D" in termites and he trains his workers well. Hi-Tech emphasizes spot treatments rather than tenting and warranties for up to 3 years (spot treatments). With knowledge of termite colony behaviors comes the ability to erradicate them successfully without using the "nuclear" (tenting) option.

The crew came exactly at 9:00 am. Everyone is so friendly and pleasant. They work for almost 7 hours straight.The manager explained everything that they did and said if any termite appears in 2 weeks to call them back.

After finding a termite kick-out hole on one of our bedroom walls, we had 4 termite companies come out to inspect and give us quotes. Jeff, our inspector from Hi-Tech, was the most thorough out of the 4. He was the only one that got into our attic on his hands and knees - he spent about a half-hour in the attic alone, taking pictures to document the different areas where he found evidence of termite activity. The other inspectors we had just looked around the attic from the access door, which was concerning to us since the attic had more termites than any other area of our house.
Hi-Tech's bid was the second most expensive one we got, but we chose them for two reasons: their thorough approach and their full-house warranty is 3 years, more than the other companies.
While we were considering going with the company with the lowest bid (another company with great reviews), that company's proposed treatment of our attic was only to spray it with Bora-Care. Hi-Tech also did this, but on top of that they injected Termidor (more potent termiticide) into each affected wood joist in our attic - a more intensive approach. Only Hi-Tech and one other company (Pacific Coast) proposed to be thorough enough to drill/inject into every affected piece of wood they found. The other two companies just wanted to spray the attic, which involves less work, but we were concerned this wouldn't end up being as effective in the long-run.
Hi-Tech also applied local microwave treatment to two areas areas where the termite activity was behind drywall. I thought this was an interesting treatment, but couldn't find much evidence on the effectiveness of it on the internet. Nevertheless, they still drilled a few holes into the drywall and injected Termidor to these areas, which is what the other companies would have done too.
In the end, the more thorough treatment approach was what swayed us towards Hi-Tech. The least expensive company's inspector told us that we would eventually end up needing to fumigate and their treatment would help us delay doing that. Hi-Tech also told us fumigation was the only way to ensure 100% of our termites were treated, but they gave use the impression we had a decent chance to avoid fumigation if we went with their more thorough local treatment approach. Since we really want to avoid fumigation, we shelled out more money for the better local treatment.
As an added bonus, Jeff was great to work with. By far, he took the most time during his inspection compared to the other companies and he was very helpful, pointing out a few maintenance issues with the house that he found and offering suggestions about how to fix them.

This company is not the low cost leader but the service makes the premium worthwhile.  We used them in 2010 and then came out for three years to do some touch ups, even though they only had a one year warranty at the time.  They are very accommodating with schedules. I have found them to be extremely professional and thorough.  You get what you pay for and, considering how important the termite avoidance is, I think this is a worthwhile investment.

We used this company a few times over the years. They may not be the cheapest, but they are very thorough and stand by their word.  In fact, after the last time they did work they returned twice without charging us.  Impressive attention to detail.  Will continue to use.

I liked the fact that they didn't tent (they have that option, I just don't want it). After they had left I saw some droppings in another area - they came back and resprayed those areas. I was really pleased with that.
