Let me start by saying we really, really liked and trusted Kurt and my husband considered him a friend. We have an entire interior remodel to do as well and he was going to be the man for the job. Unfortunately, this job totally fell apart. It was supposed to take 6-8 weeks and ended up taking the better part of five months. In our opinion, Kurt was not totally focused on the job - he was rehabbing a custom car and as the weeks and months went on, that took much of his time and attention. The window company he hired (C&M Windows) was sub-par, they mismeasured multiple windows which had to be returned and re-ordered, adding another 6 weeks to that portion of the job. We ended up having to go with another vendor for our sliders, and eat the cost of an additional window that was reordered incorrectly. In our opinion, the owner of the window company was totally unprofessional (he actually was abusive to me and got in my face when I questioned his work). After more than 3 months of little progress, we eventually had to hire someone else to finish the window installation. Throughout the process, Kurt did not provide invoices for any of the work being done, so we created them ourselves to keep up with the costs. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication between me and my husband and we overpaid Kurt more than two thousand dollars. When we asked about the overpayment he admitted we overpaid but said he didn't have the money anymore. We began the job in early August and Kurt left the job in January -- and in our opinion never completed his work as GC, including work that still needed to be done by his subs. Over the course of the next year, we asked Kurt for the money back, even offered him other jobs to work off the value owed, but our calls and emails were not only ignored, we were accused of harassment, which was devastating to us. This year, my husband reached out to him one more time to offer him a job to settle at less than half the value of what he owes us and he never responded. It ended up taking us TWO YEARS to get his stucco guy to come do the final fog coat. For argument's sake, at least he was a man of his word, unlike Kurt Gerum.

We purchased our house knowing that work needed to be done to it. One of the first items on out renovation list was to remodel the living room. The room was dark, with no overhead lighting and a dark wood exposed beam ceiling. Additionally, the fireplace was dark and tired looking and in need of some serious work. When we first met Kurt to have him bid on the project, we could tell that he was going to be our guy. Kurt's got a good eye for design and is more than happy to help with a plan that works both functionally and aesthetically.
Kurt and his crew showed up on time every day of the project. They made noticeable progress with the project each day, and in the evening when I returned home from work, I received a daily call from Kurt about what was done and what was on tap for the next day. Not only was the quality of their work great, but they cleaned up everyday. Further, they were able to meet a hard deadline that we needed to have the project finished by because we had guests coming to stay with us the following week.
I wouldn't hesitate to hire Kurt again for our plans to renovate the rest of the house again. Do yourself a favor and at least meet with Kurt if you're interviewing contractors for a job.

Kurt was cooperative and had good  ideas.  He and his worker were neat and cleaned up at the end of each day.  He went a bit over the time frame, as most jobs do.  I believe it was his first entertainment center.

We found the company online.  Kurt came and gave us an estimate in a timely manner.  He took us to see some of his previous work at other people's homes.  It was apparent they were happy with the work and with Kurt.  The work was done in a timely manner consistent with the timeline we were given.  The work was meticulous!!!
