They charge a lot. They send people out right away, the technicians they send don't know what they're doing. I would rather they be sending more experienced technicians out, more experienced plumbers.
at my residence.
The first task was to determine where the leak was for $325. This wasn’t too difficult as the front park way was puddling and there were no other indications of leaks and where else in the house. This was a no brainer for $325 and within a hour of check every other possibility it was determined that the leak was indeed in the front parkway. Brilliant! This was determined before noon and the plumber stated it would be a FULL day job and they would start the next day to replace the main line from the house to the water meter. The estimate to replace the main line to the house was $2315 and did not include a permit,
which would be more if a city inspector happened to come by. This I felt was somewhat reasonable if it was indeed a full day job with 2 plumbers on the job.
The next day the plumber and an assistant showed up and did a great job and complete the job in less than 4 hours. Is an estimate and “estimate”? What if the job entailed more that the original estimate that the plumber didn’t foresee originally? That additional scope of work would have been added to the job, of course, with the homeowner’s consent. Shouldn’t the reverse be if the job turned out to be less that originally estimated?
So, from the originally diagnostics of about 1 hour, plus 4 hours on the job, with a plumbers helper for that 4 hours, we have a total of maybe 9 hours of labor. That’s a bill total of $2650 for 9 hours of labor, which equates to almost $300 per hour. The material was minimal, probably less than $100.
The job should have been less that $2000. I made numerous inquires with Geers and they refused to refund or reduce the cost of the job.
Way over charged!
I've used Geers for years and have been happy with them in the past, but this is the last time I'll use them.
gas leak -- we smelled gas, the gas company came and shut it off, and
we called a widely advertised plumber. There guy came, at high cost,
cut the pipe to cap it off so we could at least use the heater, and left
without testing. He capped the wrong side of the pipe, so when the gas
was turned on we had a MAJOR leak. Geer came out soon after we called
and did the job right for much less money.
The second time Geer came promptly to fix a stopped drain on a weekend.
Again, they were prompt and did the job right at very reasonable cost.
