When I was finally satisfied, we went over the cash I had paid him before (he insisted on cash, wouldn't take a check) and he tried to get me to think I hadn't given him $1000. Only after I perfectly recounted how I paid that amount earlier did he "remember" receiving it. After I paid the final remaining amount I asked for a receipt saying "paid in full". He went to his truck to get a pen but left instead. After we called him to demand the receipt he texted us saying to lose his number and to never call him again.
My advice is, clearly, don't hire this scumbag, he will tell you he'll do it for a reasonable price, but you will regret it. The team he hired had clear signs of having drug problems. We're looking into our legal options to force him to give us the receipt as this could have tax consequences.
