I had a very, very bad experience with the Huntington Beach California Closet designer, Lori. She had little to offer in terms of design skills and I found her to be very arrogant and unpleasant. When Lori first sat down with me in my home, she went on and on about what a great designer she was and how she's so good at what she does, she could work for any company. I thought, great, this is the designer for me. But, when it got down to firing up design software and actually designing something, she must have had a brain freeze. Lori basically wanted me to design the layout myself; and, I can tell you, I'm definitely not a closet designer. She drew the floor plan outline, added two solid green boxes for the closets/wardrobes and then asked me what I'd like to see. I'm thinking, what does she mean by “see”? Does she mean “what I want as far as options go, like bars for hanging items vs. shelves for folded items”? As I'm looking at the little green solid boxes while trying to figure out how to answer her question , I realize the boxes aren't the correct length. So, I mentioned to Lori, that she needs to shorten one of the green boxes. She had just measured the room for the closet units/wardrobe a few minutes earlier and she got it wrong on the drawing! She made the box shorter, but I take it she wasn't too happy about it, because afterward when she again asked me “what I wanted to see”, her tone changed to irritated. So, I threw out a few ideas. I told her I needed mostly hanging space, didn't need to dedicate a lot of space to shoes, would like to have the area near the door left pretty much open with maybe a bench and shelf with hooks to hang misc items like a purse. I guess I wasn't giving give her enough detail to get started with the layout, because there still wasn't anything on the drawing except those two green boxes. Finally, I told Lori, I was really hoping that she would be suggesting some layout options for the available space. It all went down hill from there. She become very arrogant and responded with - “oh, I know, I'm supposed to be the expert, you're just the customer”. She shuffled a few of her papers around and then said, “Do you want drawers”? I asked her if she meant did I want lower drawers for the unit that is on the wall with the window. Lori huffed a bit and said in a very sarcastic and condescending manner “well, you couldn't reach in them if they were high drawers”. I said, I realize that, I was just wondering where you are thinking the drawers might go. It was quickly becoming very apparent that Lori wasn't the designer she purported to be. So, I finally had to tell her that I didn't think this meeting was going to work out. Lori's response was, “Well then, you're just not a California Closet Customer”. I thanked her for that information and told her I pass her comment on to the Corporate Office. At this point, the only positive thing I can say about California Closets is, surely, not all of their designers (or purported designers) could be as unpleasant and arrogant as Lori. And I must add, if I were California Closets management, I'd ask Lori to go ahead and accept one of those many job offers she says she's receiving from other companies.
