I called Monday to schedule an appointment for an appliance hookup. The appointment was set for 1pm Friday. I was told they would be able to assess what was needed and should be able to have us ready to go by 3pm. At 1pm no one was at my location so I called. I spoke to the rep and he said they were within their window of 1-3pm. Which I wrote off as miscommunication because no window was discussed. At 245pm the technician had not arrived. I called the rep back and they assured me the tech would be there soon and to sit tight and he would call me to confirm. At 3pm, I called him back because he hadn't called me and he seemed shocked the tech hadn't shown up yet. I cancelled the appointment because we already were behind schedule and he asked me if I wanted to RESCHEDULE. I didn't really see the point in rescheduling if they couldn't keep their appointments or follow ups to begin with. Such a shame, the rep was very nice and personable and we were looking to give him a lot of business as we just had gotten the go ahead to have several things fixed in our kitchen.

I wasn't originally planning to review Joe Brewer/Hollywood Handyman because no work was performed, but I wanted to share my experience because of (a) the lack of follow-up from his company and (b) the rude interaction I had with them this morning.
I called Joe about a week ago looking for someone to help me paint my living room. Joe provided a reasonable quote -- better than other handymen I called -- and had someone available to do the work on short notice (today, 12/24/13). I sent him a follow-up email with details of the job, my address, and contact info. I specifically requested that he or his staff simply confirm that they received my email and would be there to do the job.
When I didn't receive an email response, I called Joe and left a message asking him to confirm the appointment, and sent a second follow-up email. After another couple of days with no response, I booked a different handyman to do the job. I finally received a confirmation from Joe's team late last night, and I responded immediately, telling them I had been forced to book someone else.

I can't comment on the quality of Joe's work but I can assure you I have no problem complying with his request and never contacting him again. I'm disappointed my first review on AL is a negative one - I've had good experiences with every other handyman/contractor I've contacted through AL thus far.

They were on time, they stayed within the budget and the quality of the work was good. The guy was very upfront with everything, a really nice gentleman to work with.

I had a list of things that needed done for my house, which I recently moved into--washer/dryer hookup, some stumps in the backyard needed removed, improperly-working dishwasher, etc.
I reviewed both Angie's List and Yelp and noticed Hollywood Handy had good reviews.
I called Hollywood Handy and left a message, but received no response, so I e-mailed Hollywood Handy--AKA Joe--and told him what needed done. I also gave him my zip code.
Joe responded on the 26th of February, claiming he would charge $75 for a walk-through, which could be applied to the cost of the work if I hired him.
I was fine with this and asked him a few questions about the gas dryer instillation and how much he thought it would cost for all the jobs to be completed. Joe claimed it would take three to four hours and the cost would be around $275-$300.
On 3-17 I asked Joe when he could stop by for a walk-through and he told me he could come by on the 19th in the afternoon. I agreed, and asked him what time and he told me he had 3:00 PM open. I confirmed and supplied him with my address.
On the 19th I took the afternoon off work and waited, but Joe never showed up, called or e-mailed me Annoyed, I called him, but received no response. He finally got back to me on the 22nd, claiming I lived outside of his service area.
I responded, stating, and quot;I'm under ten miles from you. It would have been nice to have been told this instead of taking the afternoon off and waiting for you to show up on Tuesday....and quot;
I received no response nor apology. I had wasted a few weeks dealing with Joe, and wouldn't recommend him. I used another handyman who only charged me $315 for nine hours (I paid the day rate and received a discount).
Joe needs to brush up on his customer service skills--common courtesy goes a long way, and acting in the manner he acted isn't going to appeal to those he chooses to treat in this manner.

Daniel came to my house and did a good job of removal and clean up. He was very pleasant and easy to deal with. I am going to talk to them about having my deck resurfaced, as I was very impressed with the initial work.
