Unsafe water heater installed Invoice Number:1352733902 On January 11, 2025 David Wasko came to look at my non-functioning propane water heater. He told me the parts to repair it would be $1800, and that the parts would not come with a warranty. I agreed to get a new water heater. David took many pictures and measurements, and drained the water from the old water heater so that the installer would be able to arrive with the correct water heater, and proceed with installation with no delays. January 12, 2025 a technician Tyrice Daniels arrived with no knowledge of the pictures or measurements and stated that he needed to see for himself what water heater was needed. He completed his inspection and went to pick up a water heater. He stated he was unable to find a water heater the right size on a Sunday, and would need to shop elsewhere on Monday. January 13, 2025 Tyrice brought a water heater, attempted to install it then found he needed additional parts. He was unable to obtain the parts that day. January 14, 2025 Tyrice returned and said the install was complete and turned on the water heater. Jon Brower contacted me that evening to let me know he would come by in the morning to drop off my permit paperwork. January 15, 2025 Jon did drop off the permit paperwork. He stated it would be a quick look by the inspector, who would then sign the permit and leave. The inspector Ray Wieand showed up, and as he was approaching the water heater he stated he was sorry, but that he was shutting off the water heater right now. He knew immediately that the water heater that was installed was natural gas, not the required propane. He said the propane had to be shut off immediately because of very high fire danger risk. He also removed insulation as he said that was also installed in a dangerous way. He said it was not a question of if I would have a fire, but when. And that my family was fortunate we had not had a fire at 2 am the previous night. The inspector Ray emailed Roto-Rooter about the dangerous safety issue before he even left my home. This was made even more stressful by the current fires burning in Southern California. To think I almost started Northern California on fire!! Jon told me that Tyrese would be back to resolve the issue, and that Tyrese had made an honest mistake, as the water heater box was mislabeled. I told Jon I did not want the same technician coming back, as I was not confident at all in his ability to install a safe water heater. Jon promised that someone would be out to resolve the situation that same day. All day elapsed, then Jon reached out to say it would be yet another day. He let me know his best water heater tech would come January 16, 2025 by 9:30am. Installing a natural gas water heater on propane is considered very dangerous as it can lead to potential malfunctions, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning due to the different pressure and combustion characteristics of the two gases; a natural gas appliance is not designed to handle the higher pressure of propane, potentially causing an overly intense flame or even an explosion. Steve, who said he was a manager, called me. He was at least honest and said there was no problem with the packaging on the water heater box. It was completely the fault of an inexperienced installer. I asked for an invoice breaking down the cost of the parts vs. the cost of the installation. I stated that I would pay for the parts, but should be refunded for the faulty, unsafe installation. Steve refused, but offered me a $400 discount. January 16, 2025 at 10:45 two technicians arrived. By 5 pm they had installed yet another water heater, and turned it on. January 21, 2025 the second inspector came, and the water heater passed inspection.
