Fast. Clean. Efficient. No nonsense. I understood recommendations and future care, unlike other and quot;discountand quot; sweepers we have used in the past.

Arrived on time, set up the work area to protect the floor and surrounding walls
Conducted the inspection of the Chimney
Pulled out the wood stove insert
Noticed the cracked body of the stove and stated that it was not usable and unsafe to use
I asked him to remove it from the Chimney
He adapted his work schedule and removed the stove
Cleaned up the area and that was it.

We were delighted with the service. Steven Lewis was the one that came out to the house. He was great but there was a snag. They contacted us and told us that we needed to have a little more work on the chimney and they gave us an outrageous price. The service was wonderful and Steven was wonderful. He gave us good information. We couldn't say better things about them and then they blindsided us. My husband went into the garage and grabbed some grout and did it in about 5 minutes. They wanted to charge us almost $300. My husband was quite irritated because he knows chimneys. Steven absolutely left not a shred of mess. He was delightful and fantastic until they came with this bogus amount. He said the grout was coming apart. The service was top drawer until they tried to get more money out of us by vastly overstating the costs. The service itself was very good. Their secondary services are inflated and we would advise getting a second opinion for additional work. We were really irritated and we will not use them again. The price was a little high but it was satisfactory for the bay area for the work they did. The quality of the work was exceptional.

My husband and I chatted with Steve initially, asking him why he took himself out of CSIA, asking about insurance coverage and workman's comp, continuing education, etc. We were quite pleased that he went into detail about his present certification and were satisfied with his explanations. He then told us exactly what he was going to do--lay white tarp, bring in the vacuum, dress himself from head to toe in white, take pictures, go up on the roof. He did all that, and apart from the medium-decibel hum of the cleaner and the slight smell of the dust, we hardly knew he was there. His bill included a $20 discount because we had found him through Angie's list. He was pleased we'd used Angie's List, mentioned he'd been well-reviewed there, and said he would do a good job for us. Steve is a very pleasant, easy-going guy, and I would recommend him without reservation. Of course, we haven't yet used the fireplace after his cleaning, since it was just today, but I'm quite sure there will be no problems.

I had set up an appointment with American Chimney Service to clean out the chimney of the house we recently bought. This appointment was rescheduled by ACS; however, they called to let me know well in advance and even offered to reschedule it for an earlier date. We ended up getting the service done on the same day as before but at 12 PM instead of 9 AM. Steve showed up on time and was very pleasant to talk to. He got to work right away. He began by educating us on how to use the fireplace. He looked around to see potential problems of backdraft owing to furnace intake and vents closest to the fire place and explained to us what to expect in our setup. He used drop cloths to make sure that the soot did not settle on the hardwood floor. Having moved in recently, we do not have much furniture and chose to move one section of the sofa away to create some free space. The overall time spent in cleaning and inspection was close to 2 hours. Once the chimney cleaning was over, Steve cleaned everything up nicely leaving no trace of soot behind. He also inspected the chimney visually both from the bottom and top and clicked pictures that he will attach to his final inspection report. Overall it was a very pleasant experience; definitely worth the price we paid. We will surely hire American Chimney Service for out next cleaning/inspection.

The service person was very respectful entering the home, used boot covers, and laid down lots of cloth tarps to cover the floor. I helped him get his ladder setup, but he could have done this himself. He then brought the equipment in the house, each piece of machinery was clean and the brushes and tools were in plastic bags to minimize dirt. After cleaning, when he fed the camera through the chimney, I was able to watch on the screen. He took great care to explain what we saw and gave a lot of background about the chimney's construction. Clean-up was a breeze and he was out a few minutes late, only because he was very detail oriented and left our home as clean as he found it. Highly recommended and will use them again.

Went very well.. said it would take an hour and it took an hour. Covered and protected surrounding area in living room and kept it nice and clean.. even cleaned the built up soot on the decorative bricks around the fireplace. Made some suggestions on safer fireplace equipment as well. I will definately bring them back to do some repair the mortar in the firebox.

They are extremely professional. They do really good work. I would use them again. In fact I will because we have 2 fireplaces.

I received a very detailed report from the inspection. Price quoted for repair was competitive with others I received. The company representative was courteous, timely, professional. Clean-up was excellent. I would definitey use these folks again.

I had called for an appointment 1 week ahead. Lori had called to confirm 2 days prior. Their pricing was higher than the other ones I've received a quote from. But since they were the only ones doing digital imaging, I didn't mind paying the premium. So imagine my surprise 1) when someone from the company showed up late and 2) informed me that they can't really do the work because they no longer have any equipment to perform the work. I ended up having to call for another company to do the work

Steven Lewis(who, along with his wife Lori, owns the company)arrived on time, was a super nice guy, did an exceedingly professional job, and was extremely clean. He protected the surrounding area and proceeded to clean our fireplace from the inside and he also climbed his ladder, removed our rain caps, and cleaned the chimney from the top as well. We've had a sweep we loved for years but recently went out of business. After seeing what a thorough job Steve did, I regretted not trying his company sooner. They'll be my annual chimney sweep co. from this point forward. Lori answers the phones and arranges appointments and is also super nice.

Choosing American Chimney to inspect and clean our chimneys was the right choice. They are very professional...in every way. Steve was punctual. He answered all of my questions and explained the entire process to me before beginning. I would definitely recommend this company.

I called American Chimney and was immediately impressed. The woman that answered the phone and scheduled our subsequent visits was professional, polite, and generally friendly and upbeat. Steve, the chimney inspector/repair person, was prompt, incredibly professional, and just a really nice guy. The work (both the initial inspection and cleaning and the second follow-up appointment for the smoke guard installation and flue tile and crown) was done quickly and professionally.

Good company to work with. The office provided full information about services and charges, and called in advance to confirm the appointment. Steven called to apologize for arriving a little late because of traffic. (He actually did much better than I expected, since he was coming from Hayward, and it was the day the gasoline tanker burned on I 880!) He provided a lot of good information when I asked about possible improvements for our basic fireplace -- inserts, doors, etc. -- but did not push for sales.

Jose was very helpful and courteous and prompt. Worked fast and clean. Took his time to recommend improvement to our chimney and to compare options. Not sure how much they cleaned, but they cleaned the escape to it spins better. They didn't have to do that, I suppose. The chimney still smells like ash, but that could be just what it is w/o a damper installed or glass doors as they suggested.

Bought a new home and wanted evaluation of 25 foot wood burning stove pipe. I arranged service over the phone. Mailed check and spare key to gain entrance to home. American Chimney services specific geographical areas only specific days of the month. I had to wait about 2 weeks for a day they were in my area. No big deal unless you are in a rush. One aspect of dealing with this company that most irritated me was the service person's inability to find my home. I had to email the directions from Yahoo Maps. That was not enough. They still couldn't find the place so I called and walked them thru the route. Then we had to wait about another 2 weeks for the company to return to our part of town. After experiencing the inconvenience, I thought they might cut us a break on the cost but that didn't happen. Speaking of irritation. They sent a bill via the mail advising us to not use the stove because the pipe "appears" not to be connected. What! You cleaned it but it's not safe?

I reached a friendly scheduling person at American Chimney on the first try and scheduled an appointment for the following week. I received reminder call one day in advance. The service person was attentive to arriving as scheduled. (He was fifteen minutes late, but called to say he was running late and was apologetic upon arrival.) He spent nearly two hours here and appeared to do a very thorough job. He was very tidy, and I didn't have to clean up at all after he left. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything thoroughly. It was an exemplary service visit.

Steven arrived right on time, if not a few minutes early. Really love the reliability! He took great care protecting the carpet and keeping the work are CLEAN. I immediately had confidence in him and appreciated his straight forward, thoughtful communication style. He answered all my questions, provided me with recommended future maintenance time-frames. This guy is thoroughly professional. Thank you! See you again!

Steve showed up 10 minutes early, which is always a good sign. It gives him time to chat up the customer and calmly walk around the work space. He gave us a straightforward description of what was to be done, re-stated the price and told us that we would receive a printed version of an estimate for any work that might be necessary in the future. The service was clean and organized, and the entire operation took less than one hour. At the end, Steve gave us a description of the general condition of our chimney (it is in good shape) and gave us reasons for any minor repairs that he would suggest in the estimate. He also gave compliments to the previous subcontractor who did work on the chimney (there is a stainless steel insert inside the chimney), letting us know that the "guy knew what he was doing," meaning the chimney is sturdy and safe. This means a lot to new homeowners. It was a pleasant and pain-free experience that has led us to schedule annual visits.

I left a phone message on Saturday and received a callback Sunday evening, ironically just after my husband said "When is a chimney sweep coming?". Cindy gave me an appointment within 2 weeks and an estimate. On that day, Steve arrived a bit early and asked if that was OK. (Yes!) He examined the chimney, looked outside, then explained what he would do and what it would cost. He also warned that he would wear protective gear similar to a Hazmat suit to protect himself from any particles. That's good -- I like that a company believes in safety. He lay out 3 cover cloths, set up the vacuums and went to work. Everything cleaned up perfectly. Afterward he showed me how to get the stubborn damper to shut, and ensured that I could work it. I've asked that they call me next year to set an appointment. Overall, very professional!
