It went fairly well overall. The staff at Placer Title answered most of our questions promptly via email. Most of our correspondence with them was through our real estate agent until it came time to sign the stack of paperwork. The process to get the title report took a long time, but we got what we needed in the end. They sent us the wrong report at first, but were relatively responsive when we asked for the correct document. Once we received the report, it would have been useful if someone had offered to walk us through it and explain what things meant. I'm not sure if this is something title companies usually do, but it would have been helpful. Once all of the paperwork was sent to us, we decided to buy the home, and went through the process to get a loan. Once that was complete, we went into the title company to sign a huge stack of papers. This was the worst part of the process, not only because of the amount of paperwork (not the title company's fault), but also because the person we worked with at the company did not take the time to walk us through anything. I felt nervous, uncertain, and confused about what I was signing and that is a terrible feeling when you're buying a home. I ended up calling my mortgage broker to ask questions (Wendy Casey at Nevada County Mortgage, who was wonderful) because I did not feel confident or taken care of by the title company. It all worked out in the end and was fine overall, but working with the title company was one of the worst parts of the home-buying experience.
Description of Work: My husband and I worked with Placer Title Co. for the purchase of our first home. Placer Title Co. handled our title report, title paperwork, and all the usual things that a title company does. I still don't fully understand all that this entails.
