Russ came to my home, reviewed the site and took photos. A few days later I received a call from Ed, who had not been to the site. Ed told me in broad generalities that my existing setup is incorrect and "needs to be reworked." I asked him twice for specifics, which he refused to provide. He said he cannot tell how the existing components were installed without taking the system apart, in contradiction to his earlier statement that the system was installed incorrectly. All of this was a purported justification to do the job on a "time and materials" basis at an hourly rate of $119, substantially higher than the rate charged by any other local vendor, in lieu of giving me the estimate I requested. (Other vendors had no trouble assessing what was needed and supplying an estimate.) When I challenged Ed, he told me he does not have the time to do the job and that he would write a negative review of me!

The part of the gas generator that is the issue will need a great deal of work, but for our peace of mind we decided to go propane as it will be a much easier issue for us down the line.

The service was performed, but I never received the key or instructions. I also received a quote later for my own home (next door to the rental). When I informed Edison that I had gone with another (substantially cheaper) contractor for my own home, he became irate, and basically said good luck on getting a key. Very unprofessional behavior. Unfortunately, he may be the only authorized service for many generators in the area. I will certainly report this response to GE (Briggs and Stratton), Onan (Cummins), Kohler, Generac, and other generator suppliers.
