It was excellent. They were extremely responsive and they promptly returned the cost estimate when we agreed on going ahead with the job. They completed the work as they said they would on time. When you're building stairs, there are so many little complex cuts and the millwork has to be pretty precise in order to make this replacement staircase look like it has been there all along. The workmanship was just outstanding! The price was an absolutely very good price.

Replace hand rail, installed wrought iron banister and capped railing. I used there service because they were on Angie's list. Was not disappointed at all. Yes, I will use them again.

From first contact to job bid, contruction and haul away of tear out took approximately two weeks.
I called GV Stairs and left a voicemail describing my job. I heard back from the owner Allen Petersen before the end of the day. Allen had me email some pictures of the job, which he used to produce a rough estimate. He called back the next day to provide round numbers and a possible start date. He came to my house two days later to make finish measurements and firm up his quote.
We discussed some options in the finished design and agreed to the price and start date. Allen returned within less than two weeks and completed the job in one day, with minimal disturbance to our home/daily routines. Being without stairs would have been a real inconvenience, so finishing in one day was a real benefit.
The workmanship was very good, 100's of small angle cuts, fitting into prexisting geometry calls for a very skilled person working with a saw. Nailing pieces without noticeable nailing holes, i.e. matching wood fill to the color of the stair tread takes an eye for detail.
Allen set up his milling equipment in our garage, complete all the finish work and cleaned up all the dust before leaving. In all a very clean, tight fitting job. My only slightly less than perfect rating on this job, I gave Allen less than perfect mark on the workmanship due to a few rough edges that could have been reworked (base edge of melamine -- which I think is fiberboard, could have been mitred or lapped so the brown edge is not seen). Otherwise I am very, very happy with Grass Valley Stair Company's work.
