I said I would think it over and get back to him. I checked internet and found the parts should cost about $300 total, not $970. I called another contractor. My 4yr old unit didn't need any parts, only needed cleaning $60 service call. My inlaws roof unit does have a manufacturers sticker and was installed in 1998 (not "so old"-All Resd. Air just flat out lied about that). It needed a circuit board $250 and other work, total $450. If I had allowed All Resd. Air to replace both units, I would have spent $5,995 and neither needed to be replaced. Give diagnosis that parts either can't be obtained or would take 7-10 days(my attic unit), during the cold of winter, with an inflated estimate for parts that would make me consider spending "a little more" for a new unit, which was a brand much inferior to my 4yr unit. The parts for the roof unit took a day and if mine had really needed parts it would have been a day, as the distribution ctr is in a neighboring city.
Description of Work: He operates all over Southern Calif. with Yellow Page ads saying locally owned & operated, with different local phone numbers and addresses, but all use the same State Contractors Lic # 841091 which is reported to be "owner-operator, no employees". A.C. Shamlian answered my phone calls, responded to both homes, using "Allan" on invoice and business card said "Field Supervisor".) He inspected and diagnosed 2 heating units that were not igniting. #1, my inlaws is a combo heat & a/c roof unit, he said was so old he didn't know the brand and would not be able to get parts, recommended new unit $4,000. #2, my home attic unit just 4 yrs old, he said needed pressure switch $270 and probably a new circuit board for $700, but offered a new unit installed for $1995. He really tried hard to sell me a new unit, which made me suspicious.
