"In the 10 years I have been in this business I have only 3 customers that I would never do business with again. This client and her roommate are people I will never do business with again. Their unending list of requests all pertained to 'how' we went about getting our jobs done. They were more concerned with telling us how to do our job than on how our work turned out. If we didn't go about doing things their way then it wasn't good enough and they wanted it done over. They asked us to clean the rain gutters and then were upset that we threw the trash bags with the rain gutter debris in the garbage can, they were upset that we didn't clean the screens according to their method, they insisted that they had cleaned the windows themselves and that we should go about doing it the way they had done it in the past. They followed us around all day commenting on how we were performing our services, my employees almost walked off the job because these 2 were so annoying. I had the storm drain blocked and chemical absorbing booms in the street when we were pressure washing, in accordance with the laws we need to follow for The Clean Water Act and Peggy came out and unblocked the storm drain and moved the chemical booms out of the way because she didn't like that the water was pooling up - even though this is what I am required to do by law. I did revisit the job 2 times before I stopped returning her phone calls and emails. The nature of their complaints and requests spilled over into the realm of 'ridiculous'. They begged me to come back and perform services again in 6 months because "now I know how they like things done." I refused and told them there is no amount of money that makes it worth working for them. My guess is they have trouble getting any kind of service contractor to come back a second time. In my 10 years in business I have pleased some of the pickiest, most detail oriented people, but these 2 cannot be pleased."
"I told the customer that I would take responsibility for the minor scratches on the desktop. They decided to withhold payment of $400 for the window washing work we did until we agreed upon a course of action for fixing the desk. After the customer contacted me with the price to replace the desk top, at $700, I asked them if they would give me the opportunity to find high quality wood repair professionals to give us bids on repairing the desk. There were 2 very minor scratches on the desktop and it is very possible it could have been repaired. They said they did not want to consider having it repaired, it would be too much hassle for the to have people bid on it – even though I said I would take care of getting people to give us bids and tell us what methods they might use for repair. I went further and contacted my insurance company about a possible claim and they said they would not approve a claim unless we explored the possibility of having the desk repaired rather than just replaced. The insurance agent assured me that it is standard in any industry to have both a repair and a replacement cost option presented to the responsible party. I also told the customers that if I were unable to find a wood repair professional that we were convinced could do the job or if they did not do the job satisfactorily, then I would be happy to pay for a replacement. They refused this offer and purchased the new desktop without giving me any recourse to another option for fixing the problem. And in withholding payment for the services my company rendered, they chose their own form of restitution."
