Chris showed up on time, was neat, lively and engaging. He's very knowledgeable and shared some tuning nuances with me - very interesting. As much an art as a science. Our piano had not been tuned well the last time. Chris showed me how some strings were flat, others sharp, particularly in the higher octaves. The sound was tons better and we could hear the difference immediately. We now love our piano even more. I recommend him unreservedly. The only mild negative was that the tuning took longer than we thought, which might have been an issue if one of us hadn't been able to stay home. I think it must have taken an hour or so, but I'm glad he took his time to get it right. I thought the price was reasonable given the amount of adjustment required and the quality of Chris' work.

We set an appointment but he never even showed up! He was very difficult to deal with, and unreliable.he sent me a message saying he was on his way to the appointment, but then never showed up because he got angry that I did not respond to that message. Didn't realize there was even a questionnaire! Also, I asked them to quote a price and he ignored my request.

Response from Christopher Carranza's Piano Service
I feel that this review is very unfair. The customer emailed me on Tues for emergency tuning needed four days later (on Sat, my day off). I Accommodated him anyway (since I go out of my way for Angie's list customers), but I requested his phone number FOUR TIMES. He never provided it. I Emailed him TWICE on appointed day for confirmation that we were still on (I did not wish to drive from Orange County to LA County to discover whether the appointment was on or not since he had NOT RESPONDED to my last Email Tuesday night. "Foot messenger" is not a practical, time efficient or necessary communication form in the 21st century. I got NO response to my 2 Emails Saturday morning and of course NO response to any of my 4 phone number requests. ANY RESPONSE would have eliminated all ambiguity, questions or doubt. Until today, this has always been standard, common, courteous, Customer/Contractor procedure for ALL of my 40 years in business! ONLY after seeing his review and Emailing him did he make it clear that it was his policy NEVER to give out his PHONE NUMBER. Had he HONESTLY stated that from the beginning, I would not have been so gracious in accommodating his Last Minute request on my DAY OFF. My 5 years of Stellar Straight A reviews speak volumes about my contentious, proficient, good natured work ethic I believe his review to be unfair, unkind, unreasonable and most of all UNTRUE!

Very professional and pleasant. He is allergic to cats but came prepared with a mask and didn't seem to mind. Complimented me on the condition of the piano since it has been moved twice, this last time was across country. Very pleased !!

Mr. Carranza evaluated our Steinway B grand piano in detail. He presented us with an honest review of its condition. He told us the facts about this 90 year old classic, and gave us options for repair and maintenance. He answered questions as we made decisions on how to proceed. He has had much experience with Steinways and other outstanding pianos. I will use his services again when the need arises. Excellent!

Chris arrived at the agred upon time and went right to work. My piano is an electric player and I had figured I was only going to get a tuning and that no one would get the player working again (at least for a decent price). So I had decided to just get it tuned. Chris not only tuned the piano, but was able to figure out what the problem was with my player. WOW! What a wonderful surprise and for a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend for your piano tuning and repair needs. I will definitely use him again!

My piano is a Steinway (Aeolian Duo-Art) grand piano that has been in our family for 80 years. It had not been tuned in several years and also had a broken string, so I was looking for a piano tuner that specialized in Steinway pianos. I selected Christopher Carranza because he had excellent Angie's List reviews (and top reviews on other www review sites) and his web site confirmed his qualifications for working on Steinways. He arrived right on time and with the necessary equipment to complete the job in one visit. He was very neat and clean and friendly, but also very professional and after a few questions got right to work fixing the broken string and tuning the piano. He also went and quot;above the call of dutyand quot; to try and locate the and quot;Steinwayand quot; serial number of the piano because I had told him I had not been able to find it. He removed several pieces where the serial number might be located in a hidden spot, but, it still could not be found. He then called his business partner and learned that my particular (Aeolian/Steinway) piano most likely did not have the typical number but instead probably had the Aeolian 4-digit number (which Christopher had found in several places). He wrote he number down and gave it to me and suggested the next step might be to follow-up with a call to Steinway. He put everything back together and then played a nice little tune to demonstrate the and quot;fixand quot; was done. I thought his cost was very reasonable as he was working on the piano for several hours.

Chris is a great guy and very professional. I needed to find a piano tuner since my recent move to Long Beach and Angie's List came through for me again. I chose Chris because he had received a number of very favorable reviews from other Angie's List members. After seeing Chris' excellent work and spending some time with him, I completely agree with all the reviews and I give him an A+ across the board!

He was able to fit us in the next business day after we requested his services. I was not home when he was there, my wife was, but he was fun to work with and explained clearly what he was doing. He later called me to discuss his work and make his recommendations and observations. He was affable, knowledgeable, and we plan to use him next time we need a tech.

Chris completed the appraisal on a very timely basis -- and provided the appraisal via email and snail mail. It passed muster with my CPA, and my former employer who signed off on the IRS form 8283. I would definitely utilize Chris Carranza Piano Services again.
Description of Work: I needed a timely appraisal of a piano that i donated to a former employer. Chris was very honest and forthright over the telephone, and indicated exactly the process that he would undertake. He laid out the price (which was fair), and asked me to provide some initial information. He was friendly, professional and courteous.

Chris was great - highly recommended. We have a 9' grand piano that had recently broken a string, and it was also in need of a regular tuning. I wanted to have it done on fairly short notice, and because of our schedule it could only be done on a weekend. Even though it was a busy time around the holidays, Chris was able to schedule the job on a Saturday 3 days before Christmas. He showed up on time and did an excellent job at a very reasonable price. Very knowledgeable and professional, but also casual and friendly. We will use his service regularly from now on.

Our piano sounds better then new, the tuning corrected everything. He is totally qualified for the tuning, and is also a great piano player as well. His fast, courteous service on very short notice was greatly appreciated. We would not hesitate in recommending Mr. Carranza.ything.
Description of Work: Mr. Carranza arrived on time and performed an evaluation of the piano. In his assesment the piano required a comprehensive tune up as the pitch was also out of tune. He was able to greatly improve the sound and pitch of the piano and did so on Christmas eve without any issues.

Christopher was professional on the phone discussed what it would likely cost and what would be required for a piano which hadn't been tuned in a while (double tuning). He indicated that it would cost $195 (which was accurate). I was able to schedule him during my lunch hour within the week (big plus) and he indicated that he could be at my home within a half hour window (which he was). He did a fine job, making sure I was clear on what he was doing and what would be involved. I would definitely recommend him and use him again.
Description of Work: I had my piano tuned (for the first time in a few years) requiring a "double" tuning. Christopher also fixed a key which was making a clicking sound (replaced a pad).

Mr. Carranza is very personable and knowledgeable about pianos. The visits were pleasant - I would recommend him.
Description of Work: Mr. Carranza did an excellent job tuning my 56 year old piano that hadn't been tuned for 30 years. He had to tune it twice, a week apart, both electronically and by ear. He took the piano apart, tightened up each key and checked for any problems that needed fixing. He also cleaned the keys and vacuumed up dust that had accumulated over the years inside the piano.
