For over 30 years we have used the same HVAC contractor. Nine years previously they installed a new unit with a copper condenser. It failed 4 times and cost $1,000+ for labor and it was time to replace it. We asked for bids and Giddens Brothers had the most solutions and best price. Paul Giddens thoroughly educated us on all our alternatives and suggested a manufacturer that had an aluminum condenser that cost about $1,000 less then we paid 9 years earlier. The next week two very professional technicians installed a new unit and inspected all ducts, registers. They found air leakage in all locations and sealed all registers. How come it took over 30 years to find these problems? We are now a very pleased Giddens Brothers customer.

I first bought 2 HVAC systems with Giddens almost 5 years ago. The quote was a little high, but I really liked Paul and it seemed like we should go with someone we trusted. And the beginning was good. The people who installed our system were great. I still hold them in high regard. It was the rest of the experience in the years that followed that bring me to this F rating. I am four months before my warranty ends. I have spent 27,000 all I have to show for it, is three leaking air conditioning systems. 2 high end systems still under warranty with leaks, one heater that mysteriously turns off when it get really cold and you have to go into the basement to reset the moisture sensor that has no moisture. I realize, that despite quite a few service visits, I have never had a problem fixed. Not a single problem. I had one tech who taught me how to reset the sensor in my basement but not fix it. I have had several techs who have refilled freon but claim that we have to wait until the systems don’t’ work again to diagnose the rest. Lots of visits, seriously delayed billing (two bills took over five months between when the service was given and the bill was received) and lot of frustration, but not a single fixed problem. While they have a good reputation on Angie’s list, they haven’t had a review in two years. When I look at Yelp reviews over the last two years I see my story repeated over and over again. I had a leak, they came and put coolant in it, and never followed up. Didn’t return my calls. Five years in, I don’t get to talk to Paul. I have gotten the super grumpy brother who is downright mean. I have gotten the incompetent office support who can’t return a call for literally a week in a heat wave. And I am told they are really busy, but I am unsure with who can get these appointments because for me, they don’t pick up the phone. Don’t be fooled by the charismatic Paul, he can’t save you from the rest of the staff and I am embarrassed I didn’t stop this insanity of trying to get their help earlier. I called a new company today. They will have someone out tomorrow morning. I don’t have a relationship with them, but they know how to pick up the phone. They will tell me what my bills is before they start the work, not five months after the work is performed. They will follow up on a leaking freon system in two weeks, not kick it down the line for years- all that and the office staff is friendly. That is how it should work. Spend your money elsewhere. Giddens just isn’t worth it.

They responded quickly, added refrigerant and added dye to test the system for leaks. The cost was high, but only because the refrigerant used by my system is extremely expensive for them to buy as it is being phased out.

A quote was provided in a very timely fashion. All questions were answered promptly and fully. The selected stove and accessories were ordered on schedule as promised. The installation crew arrived on time and proceeded to install the unit in a very professional fashion. Generous amounts of floor covering was employed to keep all dirt and residue off our floors and carpet. All residue from the installation was cleaned up and the floors left as clean if not cleaner than before their arrival. They helped me to move the old (way heavy) stove to the shop. A full and very thorough explanation was given as to the functionality of the stove and remote unit. All questions were answered. The unit performs as advertised and expected. We are very happy with our purchase. We happily recommend Giddens Brothers and will gladly consult them for any future needs.
