The Clock Man

Clock Repair, Watch Repair

About us

At the age of 14, Matt Fitch knew it was time to get a job: his parents had just told him that he’d probably want a car in a few years and he should start thinking now about how he was going to pay for it. So the boy found work in a neighborhood clock shop. To Matt’s surprise, he discovered that he loved the challenge of fixing clocks. He kept the job all through high school, and all through college. By the time he was 24, he’d earned a Communications degree at Long Beach State and served a ten-year apprenticeship in the nearly-forgotten art and science of repairing antique clocks. In 1997, Matt opened The Clock Man clock and repair shop in the quaintly historic section of old town Fullerton. It was a tiny place, only 400 square feet, but through it Matt proceeded to build a huge reputation as the go-to guy for the repair and maintenance of every kind of clock imaginable. Today, officials from San Diego County to Ventura County call Matt to fix historic street clocks in towns and universities; owners of shopping malls and public areas depend on him to maintain the sophisticated new timepieces in their showpiece clock towers. Yet the calls Matt likes best come from regular folks whose antique clocks, from enormous grandfather clocks built in the 1700s to German cuckoo clocks to authentic Art Deco mantle clocks, have gone quiet or been quiet for decades. Matt has gotten used to their typical first response when he makes a house call to fix the clock: “But you’re so young!” He just laughs and goes to work restoring what he’s come to regard as the heartbeat of the home -- the steady tick-tock of a clock that’s kept time through generations. He’s often seen customers literally weep with joy at hearing once again the sound they knew so well as children in their grandparents’ house. Today, The Clock Man has moved a few doors down from its original location. At 5,000 square feet, it’s huge by comparison, and has an inventory of about 800 clocks for sale, from antiques to new high-tech “animated” clocks. Brands of clocks and watches include some of the most exclusive in the world, as well as some of the most affordable. Clock repair is still a major part of the store’s business. Regulars have gotten to know Matt’s grandfather, who works at the store, as well as Matt’s wife, son and daughter, who often help out on the weekends. Also services Garden Grove, Fountain Valley, Westminster, La Palma, Rossmore, Los Alamitos, Long Beach, Anaheim, Anaheim Hills, Cerritos, Huntington Beach, Corona, Villa Park, Diamond Bar, Tustin, Orange, Walnut, Santa Ana, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine, Seal Beach & Orange County California. The work went fine, but be prepared for a long wait. My first clock took four months to have completed. The second clock was delivered in mid-February with a four month estimate, which they extended three times. I just picked it up in mid-August.
Description of Work: I had them repair two mantle clocks. They did a fine job of repair, and stand behind their work with a one year warranty.

I use The Clock Man. I was there in July. The thing that stood out to me about the service was he warned me that it would take a long time but it actually even took longer than he had said it would take and so I guess I wasn't happy that it took so long but the people there are very knowledgeable and very nice. The clock turned out okay. I wasn't super thrilled, I still have to tweak it a lot to get it to run the way I want. It was kind of pricey.
Description of Work: They repaired a cuckoo clock for me.

I brought in a wall clock that has been in the family quite a long time that had stopped working. After a quick look at the clock they knew exactly what needed to be done to fix it and gave me an immediate quote. I had to leave the clock for a few weeks but it now works like a charm and is good as new. Their staff were really knowledgeable, helpful and explained what needed to be done. Turns out, even clocks need tune ups now and then. I took a little time to browse around their store and they have quite the selection of Grandfather clocks and all kinds of clocks for that matter. I don't have a Grandfather clock but I overheard them say they do house calls.

I did not take it anywhere but I had him come to the house. This is the second time I had him come. I had the clock from my mother and I had him come because in the transport it did not work. He got it running and then we had to move it after one of his repairs and it got out of block and he came again. This guy was phenomenal. They had a big showroom but the owner actually came and did the in-home repair of grandfather clock. He was professional and he knew what he was doing. He would tell you what you need and what you do not need. It was kind of old fashioned. I wished I could trust somebody and I could trust this guy completely. He was just a master with clock. I know a lot of people have old clocks in their home which do not work and I would highly recommend this guy. I thought he might actually be second generation because he was not that old, he looked like he was in his mid thirties but believe me, he knew what he was doing. I would continue to use his services in the future if needed. I have been trying to tell everybody I know.
