Initially all was well. We worked to modify changes and made good decisions on alterations. Then the company started to work slower, not show up and at one point did not work for about two weeks straight. The contractor had "other jobs to complete" however "you are the next one on the list." Eventually, after 13 months, a request was made for a completion date. The date was set and passed. The contractor blamed it on our modifications and the cabinet maker. A firm date was set in writing, however, that too passed. Five months later, a claim was filed with the State Contractors Licensing Board. Their assistance was poor. Three punch lists were made and after approximately eight months, items were still listed, however, the contractor moved on. A final statement was submitted and not paid due to the incompleted items. The contractor filed a lien and the matter was submitted to court. After pre-court discussions, the contractor almost completed the job, making a promise the last item would be taken care of when a part was received. The contractor was paid, the lien removed, and the last item never completed. This was the remodel from hell. It is interesting to note that the contractor has changed names.
Response from John Rojas Construction
"It is unfortunate that [member name removed] gave a poor evaluation. The project was fully completed to the homeowner's satisfaction. It was a complete interior renovation that was absolutely stunning! A wall full of bay windows, faux painted rooms, custom moldings, extravagant woodworking, etc. [member name removed] luxurious tastes were fully displayed inside his home. The pictures posted here were during construction and not the final project. It is also common for construction projects to be delayed due to the homeowner's changes that were not in the original contract. [member name removed] was fully aware that every change he made to the original construction project would result in a delayed date of completion. Upon full completion of the construction contract's scope of work, [member name removed]requested more changes and additions and refused to make the final project payment. John Rojas Construction is committed to complete customer satisfaction and we dutifully completed any and all changes, additions, or repairs the homeowner deemed necessary. Unfortunately, the homeowner still refused to pay his final contracted payment. After several attempts to collect the final payment, a lien was placed on his property. In over a decade of business at John Rojas Construction, [member name removed] property has been the only scenario where a lack of payment resulted in a lien. After a short arbitration, [member name removed] was ordered to pay John Rojas Construction in full. It was the arbitrator's opinion that the project was fully completed and the quality was more than satisfactory to the homeowner. In our last meeting with [member name removed], he agreed that the home was beautiful; his only complaint being the length of time it took to complete construction due to his own project changes. John Rojas Construction still has the upmost respect for [member name removed] and we hope that he will enjoy his newly renovated home for years to come."
