The guy that was doing the smog check said that there was something wrong with the computer on my car and that is why his machine couldn't communicate with it. He speculated that it was a "blown fuse or something" and that I should have it checked out with my mechanic. Well, I went to my mechanic and he found nothing wrong with my car. He also said that there was no problem communicating with my car's computer and that there were no error codes present. That made perfect sense because the car drove fine and there were no "Check Engine Light" or other such warnings displayed. My mechanic also said that he had heard of multiple complaints against INNO Smog and that I should go to a different station. Well, I did and the other smog station found nothing wrong with my car. Functional check and emissions check both PASSED, so I was able to get my smog certificate. I later confronted INNO Smog and showed him the printouts from my mechanic and the other smog station. I asked for a refund and he refused. I told him that the error must be with his equipment. He denied it and said that he would have given me a free re-test. Huh? I reiterated that my mechanic found nothing wrong with my car and had made no repairs. He then told me "That's what YOU say". Dude, I told him, that's what the paperwork says!!! He said that I would have to speak with the owner who, predictably, was not around. The guy said that I would need to come back later but he could not tell me when. I suppose that insulting my truthfulness wasn't enough and he felt that he needed to insult my intelligence, too. So...I am filing a complaint with the California Bureau of Auto Repair. I may not get my money back, but I felt that at least I could warn others not to go to this place. You may get lucky and not have a bad experience like I had, but beware. If you do have a dispute with them, be prepared to be ticked off. My advice, do not go to INNO Smog in Fremont. There are other places to go that are better and cheaper. Having to get your car smogged is a big enough inconvenience. Don't compound the problem by paying a visit to INNO Smog.
