Over all a great experience, they were prompt, professional and knew what they were doing. Pricing was reasonable. Would use them again.
.
For the estimate, he was running behind the schedule but called twice beforehand to inform me. He was extremely courteous and apologetic. On the day of the appointment for the repair, he and his partner arrived early and called to check with me to see if it is convenient time to get started.
For price and quality, I would have rated them excellent if I have something to compare and know how evaluate.
I definitely will use his service again.
The reason of the problem and the cost of the repair matched the initial estimate given on the phone.
I am very satisfied by the service, because it was prompt, professional and fair for the work done.
At 7pm, the kids had a bath.
I had just replaced the COLD valve rubber seat washer (it crumbled out), and I had tried to remove the HOT valve cartridge to do the same, but the valve would not budge. I messed with it a lot, and managed to make the leak much worse, as well as to strip the nut even more. I was certain all that needed to be done was to remove the HOT valve cartridge and replace the washers. The valve seemed impossible to unscrew though, and rather than making the original hex nut entirely round, I called Scott Grant. I feared that I would need to rip out wall tiles just to get this valve out.
Scott said he could come by the same day, in about 45 minutes. Once he got there, after about 5 minutes Scott got the valve loose! (After my hard attempts and failing). He then went to the store to replace the entire valve (since it was so stripped), but the store was out of stock. He called around and no one had it. He said he would come back when he could get the replacement, and bill me then.
I suggested that instead of paying him for another hour of time, I would rather try to do it myself again. Now that we had the part number, and loosened the valve, I thought I could manage. He was very kind and actually gave me a discount for the time spent going to the store because he didn't come back with anything. He also gave me the part number and explained what else I would need, including another, smaller part, and as well as a specific tool.
I will definitely call him again if I have other plumbing needs.
He arrived exactly on time with two of his employees and was professional and friendly. I showed him where water was leaking into my garage and after me giving consent, he directed his employees to tear into the drywall and find the leak. They found the leak quickly and he determined the cause of the leak (a stress related tear caused by improper installation).
They quickly repaired the pipe and Scott had me run water in the upstairs bathroom to test out the repair. The pipe still leaked and they repaired it again in a different way.
Scott was very knowledgeable about houses built in Foster City and I appreciated that he gave me some tips on my gas furnace and other general plumbing issues while he was here.
My only concern was that he quoted me between $300-$400 and then charged me $400. However, I gave him the benefit of the doubt that the repair had been slightly more work than he had initially expected.
My only complaint is that he's a busy guy with a lot of jobs and he left me hanging a few times. The first time was after he installed the new gas line, there were multiple leaks in other parts of the house (not in the line he installed). These need to be fixed before you can pass inspection.
He spent a long time fixing leaks, but by the end of the day, there were still a few more to be fixed. I had an inspection scheduled for the end of the week and he was supposed to come back before then to fix them, but he had other jobs and so he wasn't able to. Luckily, my inspector didn't pay too much attention to the pressure test and passed me. Then Scott came over after the inspection and fixed the rest of the leaks.
The second time was after he installed the tub, it was a Friday and there was a faulty part in the valve assembly, due to which he couldn't turn the water back on until Monday when the store re-opened and we got a new part. The faulty part wasn't his fault, but I I think he could have done more to workaround the issue so I didn't have to go the weekend without water.
The third thing was when he installed the tub, he didn't have time to adjust the drain correctly. I reduced what I paid him because of that and fixed it myself.
Overall he did a very good job and I would hire him again. I don't blame him much for the things that went wrong. My job had a very rushed timeline, and these things happen when you are trying to get a lot of remodeling done very quickly.
Came with his assistance and in two hours they old water heater was out of there, carried up through three stories of our house and the new one was installed, along with a new pan, and working. Plus he disposed of the old one for us. All of this, the new heater, the installation, the removal and the disposal was all included in his fee. Plus he was within 5% of his initial estimated charge.
This is the second time we have used Scott; his response was always quick, he set a correct expectation for timing and price and the quality of the work was first rate.
