Verizon FiOS has the best technology: fiber optics. In 2010, they expanded service into my neighborhood. I still remember the flier and the salesman stating the service was $99 per month. What a crock. I don't remember exactly what our first bill was, which did include some new coax wiring in our house, but it was in the neighborhood of $250. That was OK. We got the basic package, which was more like $150/month with the equipment charges and taxes, etc. The problem started just before the end of the first year of our 2 year contract. We finally got a flat screen TV. I had called prior to that purchase and asked about the HD channels, which are separate from the standard definition broadcasts. I was told, "No problem." Just call us up when you get the new TV and we'll turn then on, no extra charge. Well, that was half true. In the days immediately following the change, I discovered nearly 3 DOZEN channels that I had enjoyed watching were no longer available. MANY phone calls to try get this fixed were a total waste of time. When the switch was made, they "had" to use the "new" package of channels. Guess what? Yep, they had removed these 3 dozen channels from the basic package. No problem, they said, simply upgrade (an extra $15/month) and you'll get all those channels back. Repeated complaints to their useless customer service reps fell on deaf ears. I'm sure somewhere in the fine print, they were allowed, legally, to make changes, but I was extremely unhappy. Unfortunately, I had another YEAR in my 2 year contract. Verizon FiOS also made it difficult to avoid the automatic renewal. i got conflicting advice from their customer service reps on exactly what day to call in my cancel order. One said on the last day of the contract. Another said a few days before. I successfully canceled my account. I thought I was done with them forever. I was wrong. Their final bills, plural, were very complex and confusing. We settled, we thought, by making a final payment of about $60 and turned in all the equipment to a local Verizon store. They sent at least two (maybe 3) demands via US mail for payment of this $60. We sent them proof of payment, lastly with a terse letter from our attorney. We didn't hear anything for a while. Then we got a demand letter from a collection agency. We sent them proof of having paid in full. Then we got a demand letter from a second collection agency. Same thing - we mailed back proof of payment. Then we got a THIRD demand letter from yet another collection agency..... I'm not making this up. I check our credit reports on a rotating 4 month basis. Yep. There was the charge off submitted by Verizon. I lodged a protest. The credit agency "investigated" by asking Verizon if this was a valid charge, to which they of course said yes so the negative credit hit stayed on our credit report. Again - what a crock. I have added a comment (way too soft) that is supposed to be included with every report. I got another glossy ad from FiOS in the mail yesterday asking us to come back. Yeah, right. It'll be a cold day in h***...... We bought some rabbit ears ($20), put them in the attic, connected them up to the coax FiOS ran and now get most of the TV programs (in HD) we are interested in for free. We also got a $6/month subscription to cbs.com so we can watch Blue Bloods, the news, and Madam Sec'y anytime we want. We buy only Internet service from another provider and got an OOMA phone (~$4/month). We're happy. I'm considering buying ($400) a box that will allow me to record TV broadcasts, a function I lost when we turned in the FiOS box. My message to Verizon FiOS - If you treat your customers fairly, you won't have to spend as much on advertising trying to get them back after you've screwed them over.

Happy with the service. Lot of options. Customer service interactions have been fine. Expensive, but not any more so than cable or directv. They're all expensive. I would recommend if you are unhappy with your cable service.

System was not performing properly and after many failed attempts at correcting it via the telephone, I wrote one email requesting assistance. I received an immediate call back and they set up an onsite visit for the upcoming weekend. The worker showed up on time corrected the problem and was very helpful with other recommendations at the time. He was very courteous and made sure that we were completely satisfied before he departed.
Description of Work: Fixed our system by replacing older model with a newer one.
