This was a small job, but I still quoted 3 testing companies, including Once Source, to determine what the going rate was. The price range was from $280 to $500. One Source was the lowest. It seemed simple enough. One Source came to the condo to do the sampling. There was some confusion over the number of samples and materials being samples, but ultimately took the samples and produced the report. Unfortunately, in the end, the report was of no value to me. Partially my fault for not educating myself enough prior to getting quotes on the job. The HOA required the testing to meet California standards. The testing was done to federal standards. In the case of this testing, the CA standards are 10x higher than federal standards. One Source did not educate me nor did they ask to see the HOA requirements. So, I ended up low-balling myself by choosing the lowest price without enough knowledge. The HOA would not accept the report. I contacted One Source and they offered to do the additional testing on an existing sample for $85 more. At this point, I did not want to sink more money into testing since if the testing showed asbestos levels exceeding California standards, I would still need to hire an abatement company to cut the hole. The cost to just assume it contains asbestos and have an abatement company cut the hole was $400. I decided to go that route. My disappointment with One Source was that they did not assist me by asking specifically what tests I needed and how they were to be done. That is why I would not deal with them in the future. I would just caution anyone doing testing to make sure you educate yourself first.
Description of Work: As part of a heating/air system replacement in a condo, I needed to cut a hole in the ceiling for the cold air return. The HOA required asbestos testing and abatement as necessary.
