On the day the washer was delivered it was pouring rain. I watched as one of the delivery men totally unpacked the washer while standing in the truck. I said to the other delivery man standing with me while I signed the paperwork that I wished he hadn't unpacked the washer, because now it was going to get soaked. I'm no expert, but I can't imagine that this would be good for the washer. The guy said, "No, it won't. It's dry in the truck." I said I understood that, but would it not get soaked when they brought it inside? The man simply said, "Oh....yeah" and proceeded to explain the situation to the man in the truck. DUH! They threw the open box back over the washer, and hauled it inside. I realized later that they took the shipping rod that comes with new washers with them. This rod slides through the bottom of the washer, and prevents movement of the internal mechanical components while moving the washer. It's always good to have this to use for future homes moves, so I was disappointed that this was taken away without consulting me.
The first few days, the washer worked perfectly. No complaints, and we couldn't be happier. Then, for whatever reason, it started to develop a loud clanking noise during the agitation cycle. Now, Home Depot has a policy that says that no washer can be returned or exchanged after 48 hours. However, the washer was less than a week old when it became obvious something was very wrong with it. Call me crazy, but I don't think we should have to be dealing with repairs on a washer when it's brand new.
I went to the Folsom Home Depot to explain the situation, and to request that a replacement washer be delivered in exchange for this apparent lemon. Talked to someone at a the Special Services desk, as instructed in the Home Depot help page on their website. After explaining my story at length, this person simply said she didn't deal with this sort of problem, and sent me to talk to someone in the Appliance Department. Explained the situation all over again to the person I was sent to talk to in the Appliance Dept. She said there was nothing they could do about exchanging the machine, but they would have it repaired. I said I didn't think I should have to go that route for a new washer, and she passed me off on her manager. The manager just kept repeating what "their 48-hour policy" was, and shut me down. He offered to give the details of my situation to his boss, and said she would be contacting me later that day. Never heard back.
So, it's safe to say we will NEVER be buying another major appliance from Home Depot again. In fact, we're so upset by how this situation was handled, I don't think we'll be shopping there ever again. Just a tip, we found out after the fact that Lowes and Sears have 30-day and 60-day return policies on their major appliances, respectively. Go there for your major appliance needs!
Update - After much b******* and moaning, they finally agreed to replace the faulty washing machine we purchased from them only two weeks ago. They agreed to do the replacement after speaking with 4 representatives from the Folsom Home Depot, 4 online Home Depot reps, and calling them out on Yelp and Twitter about their poor customer service.
Giving them a bump in responsiveness, but I shouldn't have had to go to such lengths to get a little help on this issue.
