I highly recommend Groundworks for foundation concerns. They were very prompt with returning my call and providing a free inspection. I had concerns for my 103 year old home, especially a section of the foundation. Their Inspector, Bob Bloom, arrived on time, was professional and experienced, took time to answer all my questions (thank you for not rushing), and provided me with useful feedback on my foundation and options for repair. Bob gave an honest assessment with no sales pressure. Although I decided to defer foundation work at this time, I will definitely use them in the future.

We hired Groundworks CA (fka Bay Area Underpinning) for what we understood was a full foundation repair. We paid $42K. They only worked on the rear and never informed us that the front wasn’t included. Months later, while selling our home, a third-party engineer found $189K in unaddressed issues at the front. We were blindsided, lost our buyer, and suffered major financial and emotional stress. Groundworks later admitted they hadn’t measured the front. Their rushed “final inspection” months later felt reactive, not professional. When asked for a partial refund, they refused. We feel misled and abandoned. Avoid.

Thank you Bay Area Underpinning for saving the day! I was in a challenging and prolonged situation since going into contract with EagleLift for the stabilization/lift for my house. After a long permit process and continuously delayed start dates, I was informed that EagleLift had been acquired by Groundworks and I’d have to wait a few more month before any progress could happen. It was a deeply frustrating process but the EagleLift team was able to connect us with Bay Area Underpinning (another Groundworks company) who were able to take over and expedite the project. To my surprise, James T. from BAU reached out quickly and assigned a team to come to my house within a week! The team that ended up working on the house, specifically Ish, John and Abel were exceptional. They were diligent, knowledgable, friendly and deeply considerate. They are truly pros who knocked the project out in no time which was reassuring since I was nervous that this project was gonna stretch into the rainy season. My house feels so stable now (minimal cracks too) and the considerable slope is now practically nonexistent! Thanks a lot James T., Ish, John, Abel and the BAU team for taking really great care of us.

The team I worked with at BAU was great. I hired them to repair some minor vertical and horizontal foundation cracks that were found in a recent general home inspection. Everyone who came out was upbeat, professional, punctual, thorough, and highly detailed. Hunter came out first to check the entire foundation and give a free estimate. They then split the work up into two dates, and each crew was great. Michael and James came out first for the initial round, and then Alexander and Gabe came out to wrap up the last few areas. The guys were always on time, which is greatly appreciated. Both repair teams also did their own additional checks of the surrounding areas, also greatly appreciated. They were also able to provide before and after pictures, and were respectful of the property.

The permiting process took a long time, but that's not their fault. The cost was very high but competitive with another contractor.

Within a few months of buying our first home, we noticed some troubling signs: bedroom doors swinging open or closed on their own, “bubbles” and creaks in sections of the newly renovated floors, and significant cracks splitting the concrete in our garage. Although two general inspectors assured us that our house was level, we reached out to Bay Area Underpinning (BAU) for a more detailed assessment—and we're so glad we did! Inspector Christopher Murray conducted a meticulous inspection with radar equipment. While technically our house was level, Christopher uncovered that our foundation was sinking by inches in multiple areas, explaining the issues we were experiencing. Though the news and associated repair cost were a bit daunting as new homeowners, Christopher’s knowledge, professionalism, and clear answers to all our questions reassured us that we were in good hands. With confidence, we decided to proceed with BAU for the repair. Fredy Mora and his crew did exceptional work with the demo of the old concrete slabs and the prep for lifting, working quickly and efficiently. Fredy’s positive attitude made the process smooth, and his team was thorough and dedicated from start to finish. A special thank you to our lift project manager, Kevin Gaeden. Kevin was an outstanding communicator, keeping us fully informed and addressing every question promptly. His attentiveness made a huge difference throughout the project, and we felt reassured every step of the way. Esteban Ibarra, a crewmember on the lift team, also did superb work, handling the hands-on details with skill and care. Both Kevin and Esteban even went above and beyond, taking time to fix a jammed bedroom door that had shifted with the house lift. While foundation issues are never easy, we couldn’t have asked for a better team. We’re incredibly grateful to Bay Area Underpinning for their expertise, professionalism, and exceptional service. Job went very well with good communication and done quickly. My crew was Devone and Gabe - very nice, knowledgeable and respectful. My house is now level and feels stonger to me.

Several months ago, I noticed that doors in my house were no longer closing and latching. Specifically, my front door no longer locked completely. Once I got it fully locked I could no longer open my front door anymore, so I knew I had foundation issues. I called Bay Area Underpinning to come look at my foundation and do some measurements. We discovered that my front living room was sinking approximately one and a half to 2 inches. The crew, Lance Sladek, Jake Hall, and Eddie Shaw, crawled under my house and dug 30 to 40 foot holes in the ground to install piers that would lift my foundation. These gentlemen worked in very cramped dirty conditions in 90-100° weather. I was extremely happy with their work and their dedication to doing the job correctly. My after the foundation lift, my front door as well as several other doors in my home were able to close and latch again.

Everything looks good after the work was done. I can finally close my bathroom door. I appreciated the fact that the foreman Erick Baez, went over what was done as they were done. I also appreciated that the two installers Manny Erickson and Jesus Villagomez also communicated with me after they were done to reassure that they did a proper job installing the jacks. Very good to know how the process was going. Great job.

We were quite challenged to find a reputable foundation repair company. There are not a lot in the area or on Angie's List. We eventually secured 4 bids but found this company to be competitive.  We have a 1942 home that had foundation issues. Not only cracks in the foundation but a portion of the house was not level.  We found BAU to be very responsive, professional and reasonable.  Obtaining a permit from the City (typical) took much longer than anticipated. However, once the permit was secured they went to work almost immediately. During the work in progress, BAU uncovered a problem during the lifting of the foundation. A crack in the foundation had widened as a result of the lifting.  Since we were already on a tight budget, we anticipated the worse overrun.  However, BAU came up with a solution that fixed the issue and our additional cost was less than $500. A great relief.  The foreman on the job always kept us updated with a status along with the owner of the company.
Their work was outstanding and the workplace was left neat and clean.
