Veritas Construction

Kye the owner of Veritas Construction had a low bid on the original contract and lots of smiles and promises. The problems started when it came time for change order and time and material items. When i complained about the excessive hours he charged us for change order and time and materials, when i asked for time cards showing the times he refused, and sued us. we were forced to hire a construction expert to review Veritas hours charged, and we were told, by the expert that they were at least double of what they should be. It was not a good experience and got ugly. He had a number of his employees on the job. One of them did knew construction, the others were really helpers, but Kye still charged us for $55-65 hour for the helpers labor and charged us an additional premium of 15%. none were licensed contractors, and spoke little to no english. Also, his construction contract is very one sided in his favor. you better read it and get a good attorney. he charges 15% on his employees and himself if here is an item that is not in the original bid. To me, Veritas translated means: Contractor from H***. In his defense, the issue is that it is hard for the contractor to determine when the hours his employees worked were included in the original contract or if they were a change order. when in doubt he charged everything to time and materials. He will also argued with you what items which construction items were included in the original bid and what is not included. i would suggest you find an honest contract you can trust and hire them only on time and materials and you should approve the timeslips and the amount charged on a weekly basis. Veritas suprised us at the end of the job with a large bill we were not expecting. Nothing was said to us until the end.
