It was perfect. He showed up when he said he wood.  Had exceptional quality and at a very fair price.  He even worked around some unexpected obstacles without any issue.  It was a very high quality job.
In fact, my neighbor also had their fence done after seeing his work on mine.
Again, where many contractors you have ups/downs, this was a flawless experience.

Couldn't have been better. He was punctual (early, actually) and replaced the fence beautifully. He was neat and organized...even carefully stacked the sections of old fence until he disposed of them. The new fence is visually appealing and structurally strong...what more could I ask for? Bonus points for being an SF Giants fan....perfect!!

Extremely disappointed and frustrated with how the fence turned out. I've never written a negative review, but my neighbor told me Angie's List subscribers count on customer feedback and that it was important. So, here goes.
First, the fence we thought we were agreeing to have built was not what was put up, and, what was put up doesn't make any sense. Mark kept telling us how he had 28 years experience and this is all he does. Well, it would seem you could count on him and his 28 years of experience to build a logical fence, but sadly, no! We asked for a fence with a 2 X 12 horizontal baseboard and five foot board-on-board vertical boards with a 2 X 6 cap. Well, we got the baseboard but the vertical boards do not rest on the baseboard, they stick out beyond because of the way the rails were attached to the posts. It's hard to fully explain what I mean in this limited space, so let me move on to some other facts that will fit in this box.
First, I specifically asked for ring-shank nails to be used on the vertical boards. He didn't use them, but instead some large twist-shank nails that wound up splitting many, many of the boards when he pounded them in!! He charged us for the amount of 5ft. boards he would have to buy for the project and told us he got them directly from the mill as they were cut. However, later I saw he was cutting down 6ft. boards that were clearly left over from another job, so he likely made some extra money there. The worst part of that is, he cut them one at a time and they came out in several different lengths. So, the bottom of the fence is very uneven. Also, there is a slight incline in our yard and it seemed to give him a lot of difficulty, which I would not expect from someone with 28 years experience!! On this section of fence, he didn't use the 6 foot boards here, but rather cut angles on the 5 footers, which of course, made them too short!! Overall, a very uneven looking fence and we can see a lot of daylight between the vertical boards and the baseboard.
Additionally, when the work was started, I pointed out that the short twig looking things were actually Lantana plants that were in hibernation. I asked them to be please be careful and not step on them or lay anything on them. Well, one was completely destroyed and one partially damaged. I didn't bother to even tell Mark once I saw the damage for two reasons. One, I knew he would apologize but not really do anything; and, I really didn't really want to talk to him again. When I started pointing out the multiple problems, Mark became very defensive and then all he could say was he was sorry I was not happy. Because of his design flaw, I had to pay him another $100 to put some 2 X 2's along the bottom of the vertical boards to at least close off some of the daylight. The way he built it, kids could have stuck their hands through the gaps at the bottom and feed junk food to our dog!!
We live on a corner lot and this portion of the fence was ours to do by ourselves. Our neighbors on both other sides have approached us about doing good-neighbor fences. We agreed, but told them we would not be using 49er Redwood. I guess now I'm telling you as well.
VERY, VERY UPSETTING EXPERIENCE AND NOW WE ARE STUCK WITH A FENCE THAT MAKES US MORE UPSET EVERY TIME WE DRIVE UP TO THE HOUSE!!!!!!

We are pleased with Mark’s work.
He wrote an estimate for the project
on the spot and we found his quote reasonable compared to another bid we had. Mark came on a Friday and he started work
the following Monday.

The redwood boards he brought are of better quality than the existing wood we have on the fence.
He was efficient installing the wood fence. The only thing was that he stained one side of the redwood boards and planned to spray the other side after bolting them to the iron fence. He later found out the paint was too thick to be sprayed. He is not a big fan of painting. We agreed to pay him a little extra to complete the project, and he finished it nicely. My wood fence is now sturdy and nicely stained.

Mark is punctual, honest, and does quality work. I recall Mark standing out from the other contractors, because he understood our needs and made construction recommendations that made sense to the laymen.
Mark installed approximately 250 feet of red wood fence panels and retaining walls where necessary. Also, Mark built the two gated entries into our backyard. They are sturdy and beautiful. We are very happy with the results.
Lastly, Mark's prices are competitive. Give him a call. He didn't have email when we hired him, but don't let that discourage you. After all, you are looking for a fence builder not a computer tech.

Overall experience was very good. Mark does quality work. He came when he said he would and got the job done when he said it would be done. After he gave us a bid, we changed the design of the fence we wanted and he was happy to do the extra work involved in the new design (which cost quite a bit more). He cleaned up after the job and put up temporary fencing so we could let the dogs in the back yard while the job was being done. The only snag was that Mark removed the drainage adjacent to the old retaining wall when he tore the old one down. He proceeded as if he did not plan on replacing it. Had we not caught this omission in time, we would have spent a lot of money on a retaining wall which would have a much shorter lifespan due to increased pressure and water exposure. We discussed the fact that a retaining wall done correctly includes proper drainage away from the wall and the fact that drainage was present before he removed it. He then did replace the drainage correctly. We would have rated him an A+ had it not been for the drainage issue. It was a little disappointing that he would have built the new retaining wall without proper drainage had we not caught it in time.

What a positive experience! Mark showed up when he said he would, worked quickly and professionally and built an excellent finished product. I only wish I had known about him to use him for a different fence repair in the past! I will most certainly recommend him to friends and neighbors and use him again when I need more fencing.

I couldn't be more pleased with the work Mark did. I originally called him about 6 weeks before having the work did and he let me know his pricing on fencing per foot. I called him when I was ready, he showed up on time (early even!) and showed him the fences that needed to be replaced and the gate I wanted moved. He saw that the frame of one fence was still fine and rather than recommend unnecessary work, he was honest and forthright with me. He told me the stages the work would be completed in, took care to make sure there was a barrier up between yards when he left to keep my dogs from escaping and completed the work on time. He even worked on a rainy morning to complete the work. I couldn't be happier with the work he did and would recommend him to anyone.

Mark was impressive. He showed up on time, gave us a very reasonable estimate and honestly, felt like an old friend. He was pleasant, amiable, respectful and very talented. He ran into an issue while digging one of the post holes, felt bad and asked if he could kick the estimate up $25 to cover the unexpected work. We were more than happy to pay the extra. The fencing and gates look and work great and feel solid as a rock. I would highly recommend Mark and 49er Redwood for anyone's fencing needs.

It was a free estimate. They were great. They were very responsive. They came out happy to give me a bid. The person who came out was very knowledgeable, and I was happy with him. His quote wasn't the lowest. I contacted them and four other fencing companies. 49ER Redwood was not one of the companies that I chose, but I would absolutely consider using them in the future.

Since this was a small job, they were able to fit us in very quickly after we called. They did a great job and the new post looks very sturdy. We would definitely use this company again.

Mark did quality work. He was timely, professional, and went the "extra mile" to make the sure the fence would last. It was a challenge to dig the post holes because of extensive tree roots, but he carried on and made sure they were 24" deep. Only when he was satisfied that the foundation was properly prepared did he begin the rails and pickets. It was satisfying to see the work progress and we're grateful he's very neat.

He was on time, did an excellent job, did what he said he would. He cleaned up after himself, the price was very affordable. The total distance was about 140 feet red wood and treated lumber.

The existing fence that I share with my backyard neighbor is made of grape stakes and was totally overgrown with her ivy. I have a new puppy and since ivy is toxic, I cut the ivy up and discovered that the fence was in worse shape than I thought, stakes broken off; large holes in the fence, etc. Plus, I had the really ugly side. I called and left a message for Mark on Thursday afternoon. He called me that evening and we scheduled a meeting for Monday at noon for him to take a look at the project. Mark arrived about 11 a.m. which was great for me. Mark took the measurements and we discussed that I wanted the fence to reach all the way to the ground because I didn't want my puppy to escape. Mark recommended steel posts which I wanted anyway; discussed that the cost of steel posts had really increased over the summer. Since I was having some other landscaping done, we agreed that he would start work the following week and that it would take 2 days. Mark showed up right on time and set the posts the first day; he returned the next day and finished up the fence. Mark found that he needed an additional 3 boards which he went and got and came right back and finished up the fence. I offered to pay for the additional boards, but Mark was very insistent that he had given me a quote and that was what he was going to stick to. Additionally, Mark recommended that I get some clear fencing stain to put on the bottom of the fence where the dirt would be replaced so the fence wouldn't rot. I wouldn't have known to do that and I really appreciated his advice. The fence is perfect, it is absolutely straight-level, both horizontally and vertically and there's no way the puppy can get out.
