He first suggested that maybe cleaning and adjusting the DVD player would fix the problem and I prepaid the $30 service charge. When that didn't worked, he called Panasonic and found that I could buy a new DVD assembly part within the unit. They didn't sell the exact part that was most likely the problem. This is comparable to when a headlight is out on your car goes out and you used to be able to go to the dealer and buy $1 bulb but now you need to buy the whole headlight assembly that cost $40. In my case the DVD assemble part which includes the laser and control board cost $150 plus shipping. He charged me $90 service and credited me the original $30. At that price, one would considered just buying a whole new DVD. But this is a unique unit since it can create DVD's. I also had a couple of DVDs that were half created and there were no way any other model of DVD would be compatible enough to do that. I was surprise he was able to get the part, since Panasonic no longer sell any type of DVD players yet along a DVD player/recorder. He was courteous and professional and keep me up to date on how it was going. I would use his service again in a heart beat. There aren't may places left that repair electrical appliances and I am glad I found this one.

When we told him that we would not buy the TV he said he would charge $59 for a service call. We told him this was unreasonable for a service call when work was not done. I was willing to help mediate the issue and offer another price for the service call. He hung up on me when I brought this up. He said he was going to take me to court over this.

"My name is Bill Buchbinder. I have been in business for over 40 years. With BBB for 20 years as an accredited. I have done repair for [Member name removed] in the past that is why She called Me. Her Tv is very old, not worth repairing. I did tell Her about the service call charge. She told Me to send Her a bill. Than somebody cold and tells Me that nobody ever charged for service call. She told Me that She is an attorney. If her mother is not responsible for her bill She should not call. I will not take Her to court but I do not like to do business with people like Her. I do pay for my gas rent and other expenses. I think She is unfair. Thank You."

He really knew what he was doing and the price was reasonable. There was no one else in my area that I could find that could do the job. He got the job done in just a few hours.
