Appliance Sale
We had a billing problem with them. We were supposed to get a discount on our appliance. When they gave us the invoice, they didn’t include the discount. We went to the store and no one was able to help us. We called the billing department and they said we needed to contact the salesman directly. We went back to the store and they told us they would take care of it, but never did. They have a horrible communication system to get anything resolved.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service, Auto Service
It seems like all the clerks at the auto department are on break. No matter how long they tell you it will take, it takes twice as long. I've had alignments done there, and they had to be redone several times. I don't feel that their employees are well trained. Too bad, it was so convenient to go shopping in the mall while the work is being done, but I don't have enough money to shop for 8 hours!

Water Heater Service
My gas water heater was 25 years old and do not allow water out any more. I found a water heater at a very competitive price at Sears and they also made all the arrangements for someone to come and install it for me. Their good prices and fine products--plus service arrangements made it easy for me.... it is often hard to know who to trust into your home and I feel Sears would only recommend reputable companies as their name is on the line too. The company ended up doing a great job and the water heater is performing wonderfully the past 6 months with no problems.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service
Sears was fairly good. It would have been a perfectly fine business deal on its own but the guy that sold it to us made a mistake and gave us a 10-year warranty on everything so it ended up being fabulous. Everybody at Sears, every time we would call they would say "prove it" and we always had a copy of that agreement so we always show it to them and they would have to do stuff but they didn't really want to do it because it was a mistake which was in our favor. They were very responsive, very punctual and they came when they said they would. They were very professional.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service
After the salesman insisted on providing an extensive sales presentation that took approximately 2 1/2 hours, he resisted attempts to get to the pricing. Once he did get to the pricing, he presented a graphic on his laptop with about 5 icons that made up the cost of the system which was approximately $10,000. He offered a discount if we signed a contract on the spot. I informed the gentleman that we did not make decisions that way, and always got several bids on contractor work, before he made a decision.
He indicated that he was unable to give me a detailed estimate, but that if I liked he would email me one. He then appeared to be in a hurry to get out of the house and end his sales pitch. I asked if he wanted my email address so that he could email me the proposal. He quickly jotted down my email address, and left.
When I did not get an email from the salesman for several weeks, I contacted Sears and got a run around from department to department, even though I called the number on his business card. When I finally got a hold of the salesman, he insisted that the email must have gone into my junk email basket. And reminded me that it is not customary for Sears to give written estimates, unless a consumer has agreed to sign a contract. He was quite argumentative regarding my intentions. The salesmen did subsequently call and tell me that he in fact had not sent me the Sears proposal, and then emailed it to me.
Sears apparently has a very well thought out high pressure sales technique, that is designed to convince the consumer that they are absolutely the only contractor that should be considered. The technique had classical high pressure tactics. However, I think it is significant that the company appears to be in conflict with the Contractors Licensing Board best practices for consumers, when considering employing a contractor. Namely that a written estimate of the work to be obtained, and that other bids be obtained from other companies. I think this is very revealing, and will never consider Sears Home Improvement services again after this experience. My recommendation to anyone considering doing business with this company is to be cautuios, make sure you get a written estimate, and get several other bids before signing a contract with them.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service, Air Duct Cleaning
The service was pretty good. There was a bad part from the manufacturer and they had to get a new part. That wasn’t their fault but it took extra time. Other than that, it was fine.
