cylinders and keys. I received the first of many notices in April 2014. With recalls as large as this one it appeared like it would be months before repair kits/parts would be in store. Since I have a second vehicle, I garaged my Solstice and patiently waited.
In August of 2014, Mary Barra, Chief Executive Officer of General Motors mailed a follow up letter stating that GM was "on schedule to produce all the ignition switch repair kits by October 2014."
On May 20, 2015, nine months after Ms. Barra's letter, I made a call to North County Buick, Cadillac, GMC in Escondido, California 92029 and scheduled an appointment for May 29, 2015 to get the ignition recall repairs. The receptionist took my VIN number so she was quite aware of which recalls affected my car.
I arrived on May 29 at my scheduled time of 1:30pm. Upon walking into the service department, there were 4 or 5 men standing behind their computers at the counters. Finally one asked if he may help me. I asked for Hector and the gentleman showed me
where Hector's counter space was. Since Hector wasn't there, this man went looking for him. This was the only customer service friendly individual in the area and I wish I had gotten his name. Hector was found rather quickly and I was registered into their system. When I told him I would wait for my vehicle, since I believed the repair would take no longer than 3 hours, I was told I would have a "long wait". My service advisor, Hector Navarrete, made the statement that it would take until at least 5:00pm to get the car completed and to take the rental car that GMC was offering. I was told that I would be liable for any incidentals on the rental car, such as mileage and insurance. I got the rental car and, for whatever reason, took the insurance. After all,
it was only for one day.
On May 30, I received no call from GMC to inform me that my car was finished. I called the cell phone of the service advisor and received voicemail. I then called the offices in Escondido and was told that my service advisor was not in. I was put
through twice to Brian and left messages. Since I couldn't reach anyone and I believed that my car should be ready and that the rental car was due back within 24 hours, I drove to GMC.
When I walked in, I was asked if I had gotten a phone call stating my car was ready. I said that I was told on Friday that my car would be done on Saturday. After some confusion, Brian checked and, no, my car was not completed. He stated they were waiting on parts. They were waiting on parts after I had called 7 working days in advance to get the appointment and they knew what I was coming in for! I believe that my service adviser knew before I left on Friday that he didn't have the parts in stock. I
would have never insured the rental vehicle had this been communicated to me. To reiterate what 'great' customer service this dealership has, I had to call them to find out if my vehicle was ready the following Friday, June 5, 2015 ... one week later. And for a warranty recall that is no fault of mine, it ended up costing me $136 for rental insurance on a rental car that sat in my driveway for a week, when it should have only been one day.
In the future, should I ever need to use a dealer again for a repair or warranty recall I will not be using North County Buick, Cadillac, GMC in Escondido. Of course, I sincerely hope this is the last recall I have to deal with.
My wife and I wanted to thank you again for the
great experience we had working with your team this evening. We were so
stoked about the deal you helped us negotiate and ridiculously happy
when we finally got to drive home the car my wife has wanted for a while
now.
Thank you for the integrity and professionalism that you
bring to an industry wrought with dishonesty and uncertainty. We really
appreciated all of your help and work to make our deal come together.
Sincerely,
