We wanted to replace the entry way to our home with a more distinctive and colorful flagstone entry. We had several contractors propose flagstone and paver options. We were not satisfied with their proposals and some did not want to take on a job that was less than $10K. We saw some flagstone work done at the home of a neighbor of our daughter that looked good so we managed to connect with Ismael Villaneuva who did that work. He came to our home, reviewed the job, described the way he would do the work, answered all my questions and gave us an estimate. Ismael has been doing work for other contractors for many years but recently formed his own company. Ismael and his son do all the work. We contracted the job with him and the result is excellent. He started the job within a few days and it took 2 weeks to complete, which was right on the estimated schedule. He picked up the stone of the type we selected at the yard, arranged for concrete and all other materials. There were some difficult problems with tree roots, which he removed, and irrigation pipes, which he replaced with better quality pipes deeper below the concrete. He put up plastic covering over the house and doors to protect them from concrete and dust from stone cutting. The sand and concrete base was carefully done and the shaping and placement of the flagstone was done with great meticulousness. The grout lines are tight and uniform. The arrangement of the different stone colors is superb and well balanced. He also built up a stone border under the door sill that looks great and makes the sill much more firm. He is a real craftsman! He told us it would "look like a million bucks" and he was right. After the job was completed we had an irrigation leak near the entry. I thought it was related to his work so I called him. He was at our house within an hour. He found the leak but it was not caused by his work. Regardless he fixed it. We are very happy with the new entry and would strongly recommend Ismael for any masonry work. We are planning to have him do some other projects for us.
