Ken and his helper were over an hour late to the move.
They are paid hourly, and they worked like they were going to milk the move for all the time they could get. The first trip they made from the house to the moving truck included nothing but a small carry-on bag. The mover extended the handle of the bag, and pulled the bag behind him to the truck like he was walking through the airport. It was at this point that I knew things were going to be slow and inefficient. We moved stuff along side of the movers, and we were always carrying more to the truck than the movers were.
Ken brought supplies such as string and scissors, and he kept them in a box in his car. Every time he needed to tie something, he walked to the car, got his box, came back to the truck, tied whatever he need to, packed-up the box of supplies, and walked back to his car to put them away. He did this EACH AND EVERY TIME he needed string. It was slow, inefficient, and infuriating.
If 2 guys cannot move a mattress on their own, they should not call themselves movers. I had to help them move the mattress. The thing I heard most frequently throughout the day from Ken (including during the moving of our mattress) was, "Chris, I need you to come on my end and help; I can't lift this myself." All I kept thinking was, 'why am I paying these guys??'
We wound-up doing more of the move than the movers. I'm not sure exactly what I was paying them for, except a lot of smoke breaks and help with a couple of large items of furniture.
A friend came to assist part of the way through the day, and after watching Ken and his helper for a bit, her exact quote was, "Why are they even here? We could do this faster without them."
It was interesting to watch Ken and his helper argue throughout the day. What an added perk to an already terrible day! At one point, his helper got his finger pinched between a piece of furniture and the truck floor. Now, I too can let an explicative fly when something like that happens to me, but I was a little shocked when he started cursing and yelling at Ken, and then he punched my furniture. Like I need to watch them yelling at each other? And if you need to hit something, how about you avoid the things I hired you to move???
The entire day appeared to go in slow motion because of the snail's pace at which they moved. We had already moved all our clothes, everything in the kitchen, and a lot of other items throughout the week preceding the move. I had a mattress and box spring, 2 dressers, a very heavy armoire, 2 couches, some end tables, some garden/yard items, a dining table with chairs, and a small assortment of boxes. This took HOURS, and we had to help them with every heavy item. It shouldn't have taken anywhere near that long. I had them stop packing the house at one point, leaving our dining table, chairs, and anything in the shed, because I was completely frustrated with them. After we got the large items out of the truck at the new house, I sent the movers home. I had to enlist the help of several friends to go back and finish packing-up the stuff in the old house, and to get the large armoire upstairs because I didn't trust Ken and his helper to do it.
It was not a pleasant experience. His price was very good, which in retrospect reminds me of the old adage, 'You get what you pay for.' You have been warned.
"Please read all my other reviews, they are all A's. WE were an hour late, because my job preeceding this, took longer than expected. This customer had several pieces of furniture that required a third man, and he only requested myself along with 1 helper. Nothing at all was damaged, and the customer is exaggerating what happened on the move. We actually unload all but a handful of boxes, the customer really only needed us for his very heavy KIng mattress, which many a times required a 3rd person, and a couple of his pieces of furniture which required a 3rd person, to insure it did not get scratched or scratch the walls going up the stairs. And with a very expensice chest of his, I took nthe time to pad and tape it, so it did not get scratched or chipped, and it didn't. So, if you are interested i9n my services, please read my other reviews, or my reviews elsewhere, such as on FIXR.COM, YELP.COM, and HireAHelper.COM. THanks, Ken"
You can tell that he really treated the move with respect and has a great attitude.
I would definitely use him again and I highly recommend him.

desk/computer station. It was quite a job. These things are not meant
to be moved and reassembled. It was a group effort in which the job
could not have been done if it weren't for Ken. Thanks so much Ken for your help.
