to whether we would meet or not as I did not feel good about talking over the phone. It was as if he did not want the case even though he did not know the full details. He said he had to watch out for himself too. It was strange because I did not tell him that much over the phone and he would not take the time to meet me to find out if he could help. I imagine he did a lot of unusual work and had seen a lot in his line of work not to be so hesitant to see a women and have her tell her story. And then he could assess as to whether it was something he would/could do. Since then it takes too much out of me too tell the story so I just keep it to myself. He was happy to get off the phone with me as if he just did not want to bother with me what happened and helping me. It was a very unusual first impression.

I live in Michigan and needed some California court documents FAST, and all the online "document retrieval" services looked to be scams (according to all user reviews i could find) and I would have to pay around $30 just to find out if they had access to the records i needed. While googling for the court's phone number I stumbled upon this company and called, actually thinking it was a phone number associated with the San Diego court. He quickly corrected me and explained his services, telling me he was a retired police officer and currently a PI and could help with the document retrieval. Since we're across the country though, he would need a money order first and then he'd send the documents.
I'm not a dumb woman - I was very skeptical and outright said to him that I would not be taken for a dime and I questioned his legitimacy. Not only was he NOT offended, but he appreciated my honesty and was very forthcoming. He gave me his License number and other information and I told him after I did some research I would get back in touch. I was able to verify everything he told me and by the time I called him the next day, he had already gotten the copies of the documents we needed and said he would send them out to us immediately. He gave me the quote for his service and promptly returned all my phone calls/emails with questions about this or that. Also, he was a very friendly and personable guy, and I felt very comfortable with him. I sent the check and probably the same day he received that, I received our package with all the documents we requested! It was amazingly fast - if we had done it through the courts it would have taken maybe 6 weeks.
Furthermore, we were in another tough situation just recently, and I didn't necessarily need his services but I felt he would give me sound advice just because that's the kind of guy he is. Of course he was happy to let me pick his brain for a minute and give me some insight. I consider myself lucky to stumble upon someone of his character.
