The deal was $200 for 8 hours with one landscaper or 4 hours with two landscapers. I will give them credit for this; the response was within hours of the purchase. However, he refused to let his guys come when I am on vacation in March and could be there to give direction and insisted that it needed to be that coming week. He blamed Angie's List for not including this in the listing; if it was in there, I don't recall it. He would not do a weekend when I could be home. Essentially, I was put on the spot and given to choices: take a vacation day from work to be home or just trust them to do it correctly in my absence. In retrospect, I wish I had taken the vacation day.
I was extremely excited about this purchase and actually put a fair amount of effort into marking the various places around the yard where I wanted the sod removed, color coding it, and sending detailed directions via email. I was completely caught off guard when I arrived home from work to find that all that had been done was one small area- about 1/4 of the area that I believed they would get done in the 4-8 hour window I paid for. Not only did they neglect to remove all the sod, but the small patio area they actually did was neither dug down nor leveled. I was sure that something had interrupted them or they were planning to return the next day, as this was clearly not more than 90 minutes of work for two landscapers.
Wrong. When I contacted him about how little was done, he sent just a two sentence reply saying that he made no guarantees about what items would be completed in that window. I followed up with multiple, detailed emails explaining exactly how little work was done by his crew and how unhappy I was. No response. I asked him to call me to discuss it. No response, no call. Finally, I explained that clearly we were not going to see eye to eye on this, but I would like him to at least come see the job his crew performed personally so that he could at least tell me that he believed it was equivalent to four hours of work by two professional landscapers. He not only didn't come to see it, but he wouldn't even reply to my requests for him to come.
I have had multiple people with landscaping backgrounds - both amateur and professional - weigh in on the job that was done, and the general consensus is that it is inadequate. Some have even laughed and commented that they could have done this amount of work ALONE in two hours; much less two professional landscapers in four hours.
I am completely dissatisfied by this experience; not just the insufficient work product, or the fact that they went to the wrong address on the day they were originally supposed to come, or the fact that they didn't use the equipment they said they were going to, but mostly by the complete lack of regard showed to me by Sam / Joe regarding my dissatisfaction and the way he just cut off all communication once he had my money in hand and a mediocre job performed.
I never heard from him again.
