Scott The Fix It Guy

He came to our house to replace the dishwasher pump. We asked him to replace also the door seals which where worn out and which we ordered our selves. The dishwasher door has two seals, one for the bottom, and one around the frame of the door. He put the seal around the frame incorrectly and cut it unnecessarily which I then had to re-order and replace. He damaged the dishwasher door while replacing the bottom seal which I unfortunately did not complain about at the time because he spent so much time on replacing the bottom seal. At hindsight I now understand that he needed the time because he did not know what he was doing. A few washing cycles after the repair the machine leaked water into the kitchen and our floor was severely flooded. We told him about the problem and he offered to level the machine. We finally decided to call another service and they told us that the pump Scott installed was a refrigerator pump and let too much water running into the machine which caused the flooding. When Scott installed the pump he told me that it was a non Miele pump but that it was of the same quality with a longer life expectancy. Scott also did not finish the job the first time and came back a second time to fix the problem in minutes for which he charged us again.

Scott arrived on time in a Mini Cooper and was dressed unlike any repairman I'd ever seen! He looked more like he was ready to teach a college class than repair a dryer--khakis as I recall and a pressed shirt.
He took care of the problem quickly and was friendly and courteous. The dryer is decades old and I was afraid we would have to get a new one. But the repair has kept it going more than a year later and saved us what we would have spent on a new one.

It initially looked like a blown high current fuse but he determined that the thermostat was causing the fuse to blow. He has a very methodical and careful approach to finding the problem and fixing it. I used him before to fix an issue with my gas grill. In both cases he was very thorough and I would use him again for sure!

Arrived 5 minutes early, fixed problem immediately, then told me how to fix it myself if it happened again. Asked if anything else needed fixing, fixed leaky sink pipe.

Scott got the dryer fixed quickly and it's up and running. I'd decided to fix it rather than get a new dryer. Scott confirmed that the 30 plus-year old Kenmore was worth keeping. I'm very happy!

Came as scheduled, made the repair efficiently, and at the same time showed and explained what the problem was, so that I could take the washer apart and replace the part myself if the problem occurs again. Very friendly and informative.

He gave me an estimate for the cost of the part and the labor. He repaired the machine quickly and tidied up afterward. He also gave me some suggestions for other small issues with the appliance that I could do on my on. wanted to help me save money. I would definitely call him again.

My Magic Chef apartment-sized top-freezer refrigerator had stopped cooling the refrigerator, but the freezer was functioning normally. I had purchased it about 6 months ago from a photo studio where it was used only to store film for the year since it's purchase from Home Depot; so it was pristeen and had worked beautifully up till now. I did some web research and opened the coil compartment to try to determine the problem,narrowing it down to one of three possible problems. I de-iced the coil to provide a temporary fix which should last week or more, then looked on Angie's list for a repairman. A search of appliance repairs near my location gave me two results with "A" ratings, recent exceptional reviews, and reasonable pricing. I chose Scott because I like to support individuals and small local business whenever possible. I phoned him Thursday May 20th in the morning and left a message with a detailed description of the problem and my contact information. He called me back at 6pm that evening and we discussed the situation. He was not bothered at all by my research and diagnostic attempts, in fact he complemented my resourcefullness and said I had done all the right things to get the fridge working again for the short term. He asked if, since the repair wwas no longer an emergency, I would mind waiting a few days as he was leaving friday on a trip and would return on Tuesday the 25th. I told him that this was fine and asked him to call me when he returned to arrange a time to fix the fridge. He called me Monday evening and we agreed on Wednesday morning at ten. He phoned tuesday to get the model number so he could get parts, but since I was at work I had to phone him later that evening with the model info. He asked to change the repair date to Thursday at ten due to difficulty obtaining parts for my model early in the morning. Since I caused the delay in getting him the model number, this was fine as it would avoid a second visit charge too as a bonus. Scott arrived a little early, just as I was emptying the freezer into a cooler so he could access the works. After asking if he needed anything, I went back out to my shop to get out of his way. When I checked in about an hour later, he was de-icing the coils for a final test. He showed me the unit he had replaced, the defrost timer, and also how to adjust it if the advance was a problem in the future. A few minutes later he was finished and had cleaned up and restarted the fridge. He presented me with a handwritten invoice for $110: $75 for the service call (exactly what he had quoted even though it took a little over an hour) and $35 for parts. He also recommended that I keep the load at 3/4 full in the freezer and the controls at a medium setting to maximize the performance and lifespan of the fridge. He was happy to accept a check on a local bank for payment. Scott was great and I would definitely use his services again and recommend him highly.

Great! He was right about the probelm. Walked me through steps to remedy it next time--a real supporter of self-help, which made me have confidence in him. He came dressed up, as he was on his way to a party! Made no mess and kept himself sparkling too.
