A neighbor recommended John Frick and he turned out to be a rare find: someone who is experienced, does all of the work himself, and takes pride in a job well done.

I hired him to install vinyl sheet flooring in a small bathroom.  His proposal read: ?Remove existing floor and underlayment.  Furnish and install underlayment.  Install sheet flooring?labor only.  Furnish and install base.  Remove and replace toilet.?  Although I didn?t purchase the flooring through him, he phoned my chosen supplier to be sure I was ordering the right amount.  Then he picked up the material and delivered it to my home.

During the installation, Mr. Frick discovered and took care of some areas of dry rot.  Also, he discovered that the toilet flange had not been properly connected to the sewer line(!) and, later, e-mailed a photo that I could transmit to a plumber when requesting service.  He did some additional chores at no extra charge.

If you are looking for a flooring installer who does fine work, has a pleasant personality, and ?goes the extra mile,? John Frick is your man.

We had John out for an estimate about a month before the installation.  He gave us a detailed estimate & measured the room.  The next day we went into order our flooring & he had called in our measurements.
We set up the date for the installation for a Thursday.  He ended up being able to come on wednesday.  He explained everything that he was going to do. He installed the floor & it looks beautiful.  He was very professional, he showed up on time ,left the space clean & showed up on time.

I first found John on Craig's List and then again through recommendations on the Berkeley Parents Network. When I called him, he came within days to give me an estimate which he did on site. He started and finished the job on schedule and arranged things so we could still use the fridge and stove during the work (except for one night for the stove). He was extremely easy to have around and extraordinarily neat - everything was cleaned up and vacuumed at the end of each day. He was also very careful carrying work materials and tools though the house to the kitchen. From the estimate through the job, his experience and expertise in flooring was a huge help to me both in selecting suitable materials and in creating a perfect kitchen floor (although he doesn't sell flooring and probably doesn't want to be considered a consultant - he specializes in installation). His was the best of the three bids I got and he was also the nicest person. The whole experience was wonderful.
