The estimator (Amy) arrived on time. I showed her the work that I thought needed to be done. She pointed out that some areas could just be cleaned. I got a written quote on the spot and made an appointment for the following week. The workman (Dennis) arrived on time and we went over the proposal and estimate - no changes were needed. He cleaned the wall-surround, re-grouted the shelf area, and re-caulked all around the tub. I was ver satisfied with the results. The entire enclosure looks new.

Disappointed in more than one way: 1) Two small bathrooms $846 is way too overpriced. My house cleaners would do the job for 1/4 of the price. The result would not be much different. 2) Several sections not done. They were not in the list. They come to give an estimate and prepare a list. If an item is not in the list it is not done. If my house cleaners worked on that basis they would be fired. 3) Their employee stuck the shower flexible pipe between the shower door and the wall. The pipe got damaged. I am putting the house on the market, have no time to mess. I bought a replacement shower head with a flex tube and replaced it myself. Sent the home depot bill of $53 for refund. The owner refused to refund, sent me a picture of shower flex tube for $19.98 to fit Glacier Bay shower heads. Every shower head is different and one flex tube will not fit another brand, and my shower head is not Glacier Bay. I have no time to going back and forth to Home depot. So I am stuck with an incomplete grout job for which I overpaid $846. To add insult to injury, I am out $53 for the damage they caused.
Response from The Grout Medic Sacramento
"When our technician left the home, the customer was pleased and paid for service. They then sent in a picture of a bend shower hose. We spoke to the technician who said he did not cause the issue. When he called and sent in a picture of the hose, he did not make any comments about the work being an issue at all. We told the customer we would replace it and sent him information on a hose we found. Days went by and we finally got a picture of a receipt for a hose and shower head. We sent the information to our corporate office to review and issue a refund check. The customer decided to not wait for the refund and leave the comments above. The Grout Medic never once told him we would not refund the purchase. We also called to try to get answers on the comments about the work. He kept saying we were never going to refund his money. We assured him we were and that we could speed up the process by dropping off a personal check (and have corporate just send the money to us). He was not interested and hung up on us. We are licensed tile contractors that removed all his shower grout, cleaned it and installed new grout. The shower looks brand new. His 'cleaning crew' does not have the ability, knowledge, equipment or license to do this work. We write up and leave a copy of the estimate with each person. They have time to review the price and to see if anything was not written up that they wanted fixed. If they want to add extra items, of course it will incur an additional cost. It is written in bold on every estimate. All of our service comes with a warranty. He chose to write a review and not address any issues."

Todd D. worked very quietly for several hours and did a perfect job. I thought we would have to remodel, but the enclosure looks like new in preparation for a new shower door next. The $35 Angie's List coupon was applied.

Took a week or two to get a date scheduled, but they promised they'd have it done by our deadline of Thanksgiving, and they delivered on that promise. The person they sent out was very polite and friendly and did a great job. Couldn't have asked for better. Especially since I couldn't even get a return call or message back from a few of the other tile experts I contacted on Angie's List, (I'm talking about you SacSurfacePro and Stoddard TIle Company). Grout Medic to the rescue!

The initial visit for the quote went very well. The individual was specific in capturing what work we wanted done and discussed items like caulking around the stove top on the counter or not. We decided not since there was a very large gap and generally those are made to be removed, This was also the advice of the Grout Medic representative. Unfortunately the technician who performed the work at the appointment wasn't as detail oriented. The caulk around the shower had gaps which I brought to his attention and he fixed. No issues with that. Although he explained that it was difficult to get tight caulk lines and the same quality that was originally put in place when the house was built, interesting opinion. Ultimately, I was fine with the experience so far. I had to leave while the technician was working on the kitchen, leaving my wife and in-laws at the house. This was unfortunate because I would have called out the numerous problems at that point. I was also remiss in not raising these issues later with the company, this was due mainly because we were selling the house and I didn't have time to deal with the issue. Here are the problems that I had with the kitchen counter top regrout. There was excess grout left along the edge of the refrigerator, behind the stove top and around the back of the sink. Generally areas that one would not notice without close inspection. There were also spots, generally corners on the island and the back splash by the fridge where only the original grout was visible. The stove top was also caulked, I generally find this to be a problem where the original person providing the estimate verbally communicates an expectation that the technician is aware of. The join between the sink and the counter was also grouted, another item where the initial person performing the installation stated that they will use caulk instead because that area generally cracks if grout is used. The quality of the grout lines were also less than desirable, this was the least of my concerns. The attached pictures were from around the stove top and show the excess grout as well as insufficient grout. Again, an area where no grout should have been applied and was not present prior to the service.

Just passable. Nick was nice enough, and arranged service promptly, arrived promptly. In addition to work I requested, he suggested I clean kitchen grout on sink counter and around stove, then offered to reseal using colored paint on sealer. I couldn't tell any difference after cleaning other than that it left drips on the floor and spots on the drip pans on the stove. Nick works with headphones on and seems to like his work. However, attention to detail was lacking. The painted on grout sealant lines extended on to the tiles (not a clean line) and I had to clean up the "overpaint" after he departed. The end of the kitchen counter at wall was grouted without removing the electrical switch/outlet cover, and the line at wall was messy. When I later went to remove the switch plate to paint that area, it was grouted to the wall. I had to remove and make a clean grout line, then we repainted over the messy area on the wall. There was colored grout sealant on the floor in a couple of places and the stove was not cleaned after he did his work. Also, on breakfast bar and sink counter, he sealed only the horizontal surface and not the vertical lines, so color doesn't match in all lines on same counter. He mentioned a couple of times that "it's only a rental", but it is my property and I care about **** a good job. Original quote was $200 something, and after the add ons price was $420. Other tile cleaning and repair people I have used clean up after themselves much better, (not creating extra work for me) and do much cleaner grout lines. I'm spoiled. Was not worth $420 Professionalism gets bad rating because of the up selling and lack of attention to detail/cleanup.

I wouldn't use anyone else. It's been a couple of years, so this was simply a maintenance visit and the cost was very reasonable to re- grout tiny cracks that occur in an upstairs shower from movement and to re-caulk. Being proactive

I had doubts from the beginning because the cost was so reasonable. Having replaced grout myself as a general contractor, I knew how hard it was. But I learned you don't need to take out all the grout. They only remove the top 1/16 of an inch. When I saw this I was REALLY skeptical but the technician, who was the son of the owner, was so calm and confident I decided to suspend judgement until the job was completed. He started by scraping out the old grout in the worst areas, like next to the sink, then proceeded to steam clean the whole kitchen so the old grout would match the new. I had already had the tile steam cleaned the week before by the carpet cleaner so I had doubts they could get it much cleaner. The technician started by applying a cleaning solution and letting it sit for 20 minutes. When he got done I was blown away at how much whiter the old grout looked. 99% of all the stains came out. He then applied the new grout in the designated areas and it came out better then I expected. The color of the new grout matches the old and the kitchen counters look like new. I would use this company again in a heart beat. The technician was professional and considerate. He even called to tell me he would be a half hour late instead of just showing up late. Unbeknownst to me, the woman that came out the week before to give me the estimate was one of the owners, the technicians mother. This is a great family run operation.

Although the crew was punctual and were professional, I believe the office had over-scheduled the work. Three men were sent to do all of the jobs in one day, but one person had to leave so that left two people for a lot of work. In their hurry to leave, much was left undone. The kitchen counter in my house was left a mess with the caulk applied terribly and gobs of grout not wiped off. They left the chipped out grout and grout dust on the kitchen floor, along with their tarp. In the duplex units, they left the shower hardware on the floor...leaving us to reconnect the shower heads and curtain bars. The grout on the kitchen counter in a rental unit was applied so thick that I could not put the light switch covers back on -- something they would have discovered if they had put them back on -- another part of finishing detains left undone by the crew. When I called to speak to the owner about the poor job on my kitchen, I was told she was out of town, then that she was sick, then that her dog had died. (I am sorry for her troubles, but my later experience with the company follows a similar pattern of the owner never being available.) Another person then called me, instead of the owner. I repeated that I wanted to speak to the owner because I wanted to know what job details she expected to be done by her crew...not to get the crew in trouble. She finally called me, a technician was sent out, and he apologized profusely for the poor job he had done, and re-did the work in a satisfactory way. When, a week or two later, I discovered that I couldn't get the light switch covers back on in the rental unit, I called again to have it taken care of. I was told they would call me back, but this did not happen. When I called again and asked for the owner or the lead technician, I was told they were out of town all week, that I should have my "handyman" fix the grout (they were referring to my partner who they assumed was a handyman). I was told that I could just scrape off the grout, and that they would not fix it because we took the switch covers off. This, in fact, was true in my house -- we took the covers off to be helpful. In the duplex units, their technicians took the covers off. But even if there were no covers, shouldn't the technician realize that the grout being applied should allow for a cover for the light switches and outlets? I have rarely had so much trouble getting a job done correctly. This company was very cooperative and timely when it was time to give me a bid, but terrible and insulting when it was time correct poor work. In addition, the office manager is apparently charged with preventing conversations with the owner or with technicians, or feels it is her job to do so. I don't expect to have to argue or justify having a job done correctly -- or at least checked! I am now waiting for a technician to come this week to check the job. This company gives a year's guarantee on their jobs -- but I have had trouble with them even completing the job correctly. I would not recommend them to anyone. Customer satisfaction does not seem to be something they are concerned about. I will say, however that their technicians were very professional and I believe they would be competent given the time to do the job correctly. The problem seems to be the company and office staff, not the technicians themselves.

Very smooth experience. The work was very good and came in right at the estimate. The technician who performed the work was very friendly. He was very comfortable letting us watch him work and he explained exactly what he was doing. The results are beautiful. I don't know why we waited so long to call the Grout Medic. I recommend this service.

They responded quickly to my inquiry, arrived when they said they would and were in and out within 6 hours and left the bathroom as clean as they found it.  My shower looks brand new.  This company is amazing and the quality of work they provided was exceptional.  I considered having the entire shower re-tiled and by going through this company, I saved approximately $2500 and my shower looks brand new. The transformation was amazing!  I will recommend their services to anybody who is considering replacing their tile because of dingy, discolored and worn looking tile and grout, as well as stained and moldy looking caulking.  I love the fact that we do not have to be worried about needing to caulk since they use a special treatment that prevents having to constantly caulk the shower every couple of years.  They back their work and will return if any of the caulking or grout begins to wear out. They were GREAT!
