YEAZEL HEATING AND AIR

Last year we had 10-ish days over 100F which makes things preeetty hot inside. I did some research on Angie's List, found three highest reviewed and rated companies and found Costco's contractor and got quotes. Those led me to a really great companies with stellar people. BUT! What surprised me was that 70-year-old (*single-stage single-speed is old old tech*) technology was being quoted as the "Silver" option in every case. There is MUCH BETTER technology available and you should NOT pay the "Platinum" package price to get it. The "Silver" options from all contractors after applying DECEMBER discounts, cost more than our all in cost as detailed below. What makes it better? PRICE and QUIET. You might think SEER ratings matter, but the differences between 17 to 20 SEER are related to energy usage and are marginally different long term. See this example: [*** Link removed ***] Check out YouTube and HVAC forums discussing the Bosch BOVA Model 036 CS (We installed the MODEL NUMBER: BOVA CS036 ) You do get great SEER. The Bosch inverter system smoothly ramps up operation, avoids spikes in energy use even at max is SUPER QUIET (low as 56dB), which is important as our unit sits right next to our neighbor's bedroom windows. The conventional HVAC guys tried to pooh-pooh this as "just a heat pump" and derided it as a "inverter split duct system". DO NOT LISTEN TO THE HATERS. This is not the 1985 heat pump and is not a big-box hardware store install it on a wall system. It is super effective in our home, mounts into the existing duct work and with warranties will be effective for at least 10 years. IT'S EFFECTIVE. Technically, the unit could handle heating and AC, but we like the efficiency/option of gas so we did replace our single-stage gas furnace (that was still working great but had been in the house since 1985) with a multi-stage gas Maytag furnace. Best of both worlds. While we were at it replaced the ancient attic fan that was noisy and inefficient with one that is super quiet and replaces all the air in the house three times an hour. Vent Cool 4740 Whole House Attic Fan rated at 59 decimals, grill size approximately 16 x 32. Amazing thing really. Total cost all in? LESS than the best "silver" quote from the best companies for the 70-year-old technology. Oh--and MUCH better than the lowest "Platinum" system quote we could get even with December discounts applied.
