Smith Fence Co Installled 6' cedar fence with steel posts for 2 neighbors and myself. My portion was half the cost of one good-neighbor fence. This company was the cheapest and Chris Smith appeared capable and eager to satisfy. In January 2010, half my fence fell over. A couple of months prior to rhat my neighbors' fences began to tilt and buckle. We could not reach a satisfactory remedy with Chris and by that time no longer trusted his skill and professionalism. Independent inspectors with Smith's bond company and the licensing board indicated poor quality. The main complaint was that the steel posts were installed 12-15 inches deep, not the minimum 24 inches required. Although Chris stated that he didn't dig that deep because the ground was hard granite (but didn't say anything about it at the time), the fence company that recently installed the new fence had no problem putting the posts to the required 2 feet depth Also, latches on gates stopped working properly shortly after installed. Smith Fence was not responsive to these complaints. Chris stated the fence failure was due to an 'Act of God', as well as lack of maintenance by the homeowners, although the previous fence had lasted over 20 years. I would never recommend Smith Fence to anyone.
