Great! Easy to work with, clear communication, great price, do what they say, worked with me on my schedule. What's not to like? I would definitely work with them again.

I'm older than most reviewers so I haven't visited Angie's List a lot lately, but I wanted to let people know what we experienced with this company. Got bids from three roofers recommended by people on a neighborhood app. While all were comparable - we chose Raneri and Long because it's a family-owned company that's been around since the 1980s - and - it had the best policies and attitude about providing great service. Dave Hancock is the boss - and his grown kids, extended family and trusted crews run the show. Chatting with his workers - we learned most have been on board forever - so not a lot of turnover here, nice to see. SIX THINGS WE DISCOVERED: 1) They WON'T accept money up-front. No deposits. That was a first. If you pay up front - you've lost control. I think they know that - which is why its policy puts customers at ease. We didn't pay until the job was done. 2) No sub-contractors. A big deal because it's common for contractors to "sub out" their work to specialists with whom you have NO leverage. But R&L is an "all-in-one" biz that only does what it knows, i.e., roofing, solar, windows and gutters and a few other things. They don't do paint but they know who can. They don't hit you with stuff you won't need. 3) These guys are big about what they call, "trust and verify" - so that common issues like dry rot which causes leaks - you don't take their word for it. They brought down three rotted panels for us to inspect. BTW, you should expect dry rot because it's usually the main cause of leaks. 4) These guys aren't "hired hands" for "spot jobs." They're on the payroll, some for many years. They show up in big red trucks and vans - wearing red logo t-shirts. Shout out to Hector, Jesus, Carlos on-site and Emely and Perla at Mission Control. Can't remember all the names we dealt with, sorry, but they were all A+ - and it felt like everyone on-site was "in charge." 5) They gave us an estimate that was gold. Potential over-runs for dry rot, replacing panels and fascia - were detailed up front down to the linear foot - which INCLUDED materials AND labor. This is key because R&L does NOT use the term, "man-hours" like others - which can lead to "sticker shock" based on worker head counts. 6) They called and emailed us at the end of EACH WORK DAY - to update what they did - and what they were going to do the next day. (Ours was a five-day job.) There was no mess nor stray garbage left behind. LESSONS LEARNED: * The cost for new tile - is only marginally higher than re-using old tile. Because our home is more than 20 years old, we went for the new tile. On the first day, ten people came out at 730a and put tarps around our house and in our garage. By 2p, they had taken out about 2200 square feet of old and dirty tile. Days 2-3 involved ripping out and pounding in new boards, adding water-tight layers of black synthetic "underlayment" on top - (and not the old felt stuff made of tar) - and installed new tile. Days 4-5 were all about installing more new tile - and we saw a lot of precision sawing to make everything fit perfect. Bonus day 6 was us deciding at the last minute to replace a few dingy gutters. * Turns out this company has a lot of videos which break down what they do and why. DO look at them. Browse other reviews - and you'll notice how Dave Hancock and his family ALWAYS respond, esp. to issues that come up because no two roofs are alike. For me - (vs. my wife, who just loved Dave's "old school" manner) - R&L's desire to address problems "publicly" - sealed the deal. It's serious about protecting its brand - and plans to be around "forever." * Our roof is done and it's spectacular. Great service and clean-up - as if they were never here. A lot of good roofers are out there - but we chose one that felt like an experienced surgeon - with calm and caring manners. They will work with you on ANYTHING. They did for us - and we now have peace of mind - with NO uncertainty about what lies ahead. Thank you!

It all went quite well. After signing the contract and setting a work schedule, it was confirmed shortly thereafter in writing by the Project Coordinator. I received explicit instructions and a check list of tips to assist in getting ready for the process. The crew arrived on time and introduced themselves. They knew their jobs so got right to work after installing plastic covering where necessary. I was home throughout for any questions or concerns they had. The first day included the tear off and preparation for the new tiles and any required repair work, including 30' of new Fascia Boards. The second day consisted of the installation of the insulation and the tiles. The project was finished the morning of the third day. Two days later the gutters were cleaned. I now have a new lovely, gleaming show case roof. I commented to Dave earlier that I've never seen such a polite, sensitive, dedicated and professional group of young, hard working men. They also worked extremely well as a team. They cleaned up at the end of each day and would also let me know when they were leaving. This was truly a job well done and I am very pleased. I would also add that I very much appreciated the fact that these young men actually work for Raneri and Long and not an outside contractor.

I have only good things to say about them.

We just completed a large project with Raneri & Long which included new windows, a new roof and roof repair and a solar system. I can't say enough about Dave and his entire crew. Dave knows his products well and was excellent at providing the best options to help us make the right choice for our home. The work was well coordinated and we were kept informed of schedules at all times. Rodrigo and Joe's crew were always professional and very hard working. We are very pleased with how everything turned out (and pretty excited about the credit balance our solar system is earning).....and must say that Dave and his team definitely made this entire project painless!

Raneri & Long Roofing replaced roofs on three small houses that I have in the city of San Diego.  Dave, the President of the company, came out on a Saturday to do the estimate for the work - he was very knowledgeable and seemed honest - he provided an estimate that, while it wasn't the cheapest bid I got the for job, it seemed to be the best price with regard to the quality of shingles used and the warranty that was offered.
Being an "El Nino" year scheduling was a bit of a mess - it rained several times in August and September after I had scheduled the work to be done, and as I expected it would, these rains pushed back the work date several times.  The rescheduling was totally understandable and I certainly don't hold that against Raneri & Long Roofing - it shouldn't be raining in San Diego in the Summer...
The roofing job was completed in about four days - all of the workers were nice and professional - my tenants even commented how nice they were.  The roofs look great - and the job looks well done.  My only "complaint" would be some initial lack of communication with regard to choosing shingle colors - I called several times to inquire about getting a sample board so as to see the options available before choosing, but for whatever reason a sample board wasn't available.  Other than that minor item I found Raneri & Long Roofing to be great roofers.  I would not hesitate to work with them again.

This was one of the best experiences we have ever had with a business of this type. (So good in fact, we have since decided to have Raneri and Long replace all our windows this fall). For the solar project they were on time, neat and tidy, polite, answered all our questions. Raneri and Long made the whole experience a pleasant and comfortable one. We first became aware of Raneri and Long because we had a roof leak and needed help quick. We called this company and they were out the same day!! They fixed our leak and took a big worry off of us. We have had only GOOD experiences with this company!

My wife and I are extremely happy with our dealing with R & L.  We had no unhappy experiences.  The owner and contract negotiator(Dave Hancock) delivered everything that was promised!

Everything went very well.  The team is very professional and cleaned up every day.   The blinds they initially installed on the skylight was not the one we wanted but they replaced it without any issue.

Outstanding Service and Quality!  Rehabilitated and repaired porch, including wood and shingle replacement, etc.
Dave, his son, and his staff are excellent and they communicated and told me what the options were and the costs involved.  This allowed us to decide which option was the best for our situation.  They also will tell you if there are unforeseen issues which may make the job more costly or complicated (such as wood damage).  They will show you the issue so you can see it for yourself, and then let you decide how to proceed based upon your situation and budget.  Most importantly, they are very honest and will communicate!

TERRIFIC EXPERIENCE--This company is awesome all-around, from the communication and rapid response up front to coming out to do a free estimate, and then scheduling the work soon.  They quickly answered any questions I had all through the process, and removed many layers of old roof, meticulously prepped the roof and replaced it as well as doing a lot of additional old wood removal and replacement of the soffit areas, trim, etc.  I can't say enough positive things about the entire experience.  When there was something that needed a decision and varied in cost, etc., they made sure to tell me about the options, SHOW me the issue in question, and ask me what option I wanted, etc.  Very fair price for all the work done.  Dave, his son, and all of his workers were great to work with.  All debris and mess cleaned up like clockwork.  BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!

IUNBELIEVABLY AWESOME RESPONSE!  I requested an estimate for repair or replacement of a roof on a small house. I literally received a callback within about 2 minutes!!  Many providers never respond whatsoever, for whatever reason, but this business clearly is about customer service and communication.  It also shows that they actually want the business.  This was clearly above and beyond!!  They came out the VERY NEXT DAY and gave me a written estimate that day.  I'm really impressed and will use this company!!
