Elmer Sweetwood and Sons

My Lexus RX is 12 years old and beginning to need quite a bit of service. The first thing I do when repairwork or service is needed is to call the local Lexus dealer to get their price for the work. Then I call Sweetwood's for a comparison and consistently find that their prices are 20 to 30% less. I've been taking my car there for years and have found that the workmanship is consistently good. On the few occasions I've had to return the car because something wasn't quite right, they promptly and cheerfully take care of the problem. Sweetwood puts out a lot of promotional material, especially for oil changes. I've become a regular customer who they recognize and call by name and it always makes me feel sheepish taking advantage of these promotional deals for such a low cost. But they always seem glad to see me and don't resend it when I give them a discount coupon. Overall I see no reason to go to another mechanic.

Went very well. Everything was explained when items had to be replaced. They also alerted me to possible future needs to be addressed.

I described my car's problem as "excessive noise and vibration of blower motor under the dash, getting worse with higher fan rpm." Instead of just looking at the car and trying the blower the service manager wrote up a ticket for 105 dollars for diagnosis and estimate. I was astounded and he said they had to do all sorts of work like "pulling resistors" and like an idiot I signed the ticket. 20 minutes later I was told that the blower motor was shot and that to fix it would be 325 in parts and labor. That information cost me 105 dollars. On the invoice is their slogan: "Satisfied customers are our best ads". This customer was thoroughly dissatisfied and is probably not their best ad. They made sure that I would never return to their shop.
