"I don't hide my rates. If he was concerned about how much the job was going to cost he should have asked me. I promptly went over to his house immediately to take care of his needs. I have insurance, vehicles costs, gas, etc. I have to pay for to stay in business and so I have to have a minimum charge. You get my best rate when you hire me for a full day, but I'll do small jobs if that's what you require, but it's not as cost effective for you or me to drive all the way to just do a 20 min job. Most of my regular customers keep a list and they call me when the list gets big enough."
"I only worked for this customer once but I guess she decided to leave 2 bad reviews for me. Her complaints all revolve around the fact that she didn't budget enough money to finish the job properly. I could't do the job for the amount she budgeted and I told her that before I started the job. I told her I'd do the job on an hourly basis and once I hit her budget she stopped paying me and so I left. It's funny that she stopped paying me because she said she ran out of money, but she had enough money to hire someone else to come in and finish the work. Go figure..."
"I told her the cost to remodel her bathroom would be $1200 which is a very good price for a bathroom remodel. She got no competitive bids and so had no way to accurately gauge how much a job like this should cost. She said she could only afford $900. I recommended we do it on an hourly basis and once we reached her $900 budget figure, we'd determine what to do from there. Maybe we'd be surprised and things would go quicker than envisioned. However once we hit her $900, there was still about a days worth of work to do, just like I originally thought. I've been doing this for 25 years and I know how long things usually take. I told her I was still willing to complete her bathroom for $1200, but she decided she didn't want to spend anymore money. So her complaints about the work I did on her bathroom aren't criticisms of my workmanship, because I do excellent work, they are just things I wasn't able to complete because she didn't want to spend anymore on the remodel. The door needed 2 coats, but I only was able to do one; her ceiling also needed 2 coats, but she didn't want to pay me to do the 2nd coat. I didn't put the beauty rings around her plumbing pipes because she stopped paying me. It is unfortunate when people misrepresent the facts and leave out information in order to justify their own actions and make another look bad, but I guess there are all types of people out there. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to complete the job for her, but I do nice work and expect to be fairly compensated for the work I do. I'm not out to take advantage of anyone and do each job as if I were working on my own house. She's a nice lady and I hope she is able to find someone to do a good job for her. :-)"
