On the bright side, the stairs and small porch that American West constructed look good and feel much more solid than the old ones. We're very glad we had the work done.
The roof, however, is another story. The one good thing we can say is that the house stays cooler now, which is great.
Please note: I would not leave a negative review like this without attempting to resolve things directly with the merchant. We have called American West multiple times. They have been slow to respond, sometimes not responding at all, and indignant ("that can't be our fault"). I am at the point where I feel all I can do is warn other potential customers and look elsewhere for help solving the problems they have created.
Since having the new roof installed, rain and condensation are running down the sides of the home in places they did not before. We  suspect this is because the old (shingle) roof had eaves, whereas the new roof sort of just wraps down onto the walls or lays on top of the awnings, but since we're not experts we don't claim to totally understand it. Whatever the exact cause, there are multiple places around the home where this is happening. Some are just nuisances, with discoloration on the walls but no apparent structural damage, but others are really problematic. For instance, we have window frames that are molding from the increased wetness.
After multiple requests, American West did come back out. They added an additional flap to cover more of the connection between the roof and the awnings. It hasn't solved the problem and now there are screws sticking down through the awning. Is this standard practice? I don't know, but it looks unpolished to me.
When I climbed up to look at things, I also noticed leftover nails and bits of shingles? not a huge deal, I guess, but it adds to our impression that this just wasn't a professional job.
