came to estimate the job I informed them that I would need to continue living
in the residence during the installation. With that shared information the initial
verbal estimate was 4 days to complete work. It took twice as long to complete
the job. After the job got underway and we passed the original estimate of 4
days I requested to have the job completed by a deadline. That deadline was
reasonable but not met. I felt the communication and scheduling of worker
resources was not handled as well as it could have been.
I've had estimates from 3 other contractors before settling with this company.
Two of the other contractors came within less than $200 of their estimate. I
chose these contractors because they were a few hundred cheaper and
geographically closer to me. In retrospect I wonder if I chose the best
contractor.
The worst part of the experience is as follows...
Workers left numerous marks and greasy handprints on walls while touching walls
with dirty hands where it wasn't even necessary to make contact with the wall.
For example, to touch the wall in reflex as one would touch the top of overhang
at the bottom of a staircase. One big greasy handprint out of place. I'll need
to wash the walls and go out and buy a couple gallons of paint to repaint walls as well as fill in
small holes made when flooring materials were carelessly carried in and out of
my residence. One worker while using my bathroom opened the vanity containing
extremely personal items, leaving door wide open after he left the bathroom. A
worker used the toilet and placed soiled bathroom tissue in garbage instead of
flushing down toilet. On two other days a worker used the toilet but did not
bother to flush the toilet. One day I observed a worker reading my personal
mail. A worker removed a small trash receptacle from the garage. I felt one or
two workers were boldly disrespectful to my property and privacy for no
apparent reason.
All in all I was relieved the job was finally done. I can't say I would
contract them again for these reasons mentioned.
Bottom line if you are going to use them, do it before any additional work is done. The floors themselves came out looking very nice, and it might have gone a bit better had we had the floors done before the painting, which was what they had recommended; but every other floor company we had solicited and our painter all said to do the painting first and then the floors; so we can only assume they wanted it done in that order because they don't care about the "collateral" damage.
There are much better companies out there for flooring.
"[Member name removed], First of all, thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you. Unfortunately, our business relationship did not end in good terms. Thus, after you have expressed you experience with our service, we would like to share our experience in having you as a costumer. With both side of the story, Angie’s list members will be able to reach a conclusion in regards to this issue. At the beginning of the year, we sent you a proposal for sanding and refinishing an existing floor and some stairs. Also, we provided you with references on our work from our customers. Based on the info we presented, you indicated you were willing to sing the contract, however; at that time, you were not able to move forward because of personal reasons. On July 7 of this year, you sent us an e-mail saying “We have finally started the job. We decided to start with all the painting first and do the floors afterwards. The painting starts tomorrow and we will get an estimate from them when they will be done so we can send you the contract with an approximate start date” It’s the responsibility of painters to let their clients know about the pros and cons of scheduling work before or after a certain work is being done on site, and about the quality of paint they are getting. It is a good idea to do the painting at the end, because in this case, it is easier to cover the floor than it is to cover the walls. However, the painter must be careful with the new floor, and depending on the kind of work the painter is doing; the new floor must be covered appropriately. On the other hand, when the paint is done first, whoever walks into the job site to do work must be careful with new painted walls. Generally speaking, when all work is done, the customer should expect to touch up the paint on the wall, as in most cases, there will be some areas that need to be touched up. If the paint is not top quality and the prep on the walls wasn’t done right, then the customer should expect even more areas that need to be fixed. Therefore, we specify about the possibility of such issue on all our contracts. The customer can read this on section XII and XIII. Furthermore, we acknowledge there was a miscommunication mishap with the hand rail and you charged us $500 to have it repaired. It is important to point out that we never had the opportunity to discuss the scope and cost of the work with the painter; you simply deducted $500 from the balance due and you send us the bill, for which you were given credit when you paid off the balance. Homero, the manager at the job site, believed the work did not amount to the $500 you deducted. Nevertheless, we did not complain about it and we paid you for it. Moreover, we helped you move appliances back and forth at no cost. Also, Homero said you kept insisting on a $500 discount. Thus, if you factor everything in i.e. the amount charged for fixing the hand rail, and the moving of the appliances, you ended up with a nice discount. Once again, we thank you for giving us the opportunity to offer you our services. We will learn from this experience to prevent issues of this kind, and at the same time, let Angie’s list members know that some customers can be a challenge to deal with. Now, there is enough information to draw a fair conclusion in regards to this matter. Sincerely, Homero Hardwood Floors Inc."
Professional when estimate was obtained. Actually showed up and educated me a bit about what would happen. Explained the process.
Completed the job on time. Showed up when they said they would show up.
Cleaned up the job when finished.
The floors are so beautiful. I'm very, very happy with the outcome.
During the course of the job, several issues arose which they were able to fix - sometimes within the scope of the job and sometimes at an extra cost. They replaced a few damaged floorboards and stained them to match. Where we found more extensive damage, they made excellent repairs at an additional cost. The stair landings had to be replaced because of pet urine saturation and Homero's price was very reasonable.
The foreman, Jesus, worked with us to match colors and came up with an excellent stain for the stair railings and newell posts. He also was able to remove or significantly reduce other pet stains. He also went over the entire stairway to hand color blemishes that had appeared after the finish was applied.
We highly recommend Homero Hardwood Floors.
