Ma Oliver Mahon Asphalt Inc. completely ripped me off. The city required me to replace the existing asphalt on the driveway because of cracking. This property is currently being used as a rental property, it was my home before i married. Since i had to replace i choose to go with concrete instead of asphalt. I received 10-12 bids for the job and Oliver Mahon?s bid was the middle of the range. I was extremely concerned with the cracking and coming up with a long term solution, so I wouldn?t have to redo this process in another couple of years. I spoke to Oliver Mahon Asphalt about my concerns regarding the cracking and how I wanted to make sure there would be enough support and structure for the driveway so it won't crack in the future. The nice woman reassured me that they would do a great job and over time hairline cracks may appear, but all "driveways do that". I decided to go with Oliver Mahon Asphalt Inc because the woman was nice, helpful, seemed honest and was eager to get the job. She continually emphasized that she related to me being a mom and having my hands full and she wanted to make the process easy. On the day of the job my husband showed up at my property to check on the work and when he arrived they Oliver Mahon Asphalt Inc had already started and was already pouring the concrete ? my husband was horrified to see there was no structure, no rebar, and no packing of the ground. He said something to the worker on the job and he said that that wasn't a part of this residential job and that they only do that for commercial work. Every other bid we had included structure (rebar for the driveway). I thought it was a given that a driveway would have some kind of support, so it would not crack. I had discussed my cracking concerns at length with representatives of Oliver Mahon Asphalt and had been reassured that their work would have quality support to prevent future cracking. It?s my belief that sidewalks always have rebar/structure. I feel completely ripped off by this Oliver Mahon Asphalt. I feel i stressed the need for support and rebar is a basic element of the support and laying concrete. They clearly saw me as a young busy mother that they could rip off. Although I emphasized my concerns regarding cracking, I clearly did not use the technical terms and they took advantage of my naievte and did a shoddy job for the same amount that the other companies quoted with rebar. In the end, I lost over $7,000 repairing my driveway for cracks that will crack again in the near future because no structural support was put in place to provide a lasting solution. 3 WEEKS AFTER JOB WAS FINISHED MY DRIVEWAY CRACKED in the approach. I am embarrassed that I trusted Oliver Mahon to do quality work and assumed that they would perform at the industry standard. A couple of weeks later I was contacted by the company that Mahon purchased their asphalt from who stated that Oliver Mahon Asphalt Inc. had never paid them for the concrete that they had purchased for their job. This entire experience has been devastating?
