I was having overflow and ice up of the Ice maker such that water was leaking on to wood floor. Looked to Angie's list and selected this very highly rated provider.
The technician provided very professional service, on-time, and made initial repairs as necessary. He advised that although he had repaired the immediate condition, a follow up may be required if this fix did not work.. He did not try to load on a lot of extra repairs, but wanted to see if his immediate fixed sufficed. He advised to call if there were further problems with his repair, and he would return to replace the suspect part without additional 'House Call' costs.
The technician was correct. The repair did require the replacement of a valve. I called the A-1 Appliance store again and advised that I would authorize ordering and subsequent replacement of the part (It was for an older/out of stock refrigerator.). A person who identified himself as the owner, thanked me, and said they would call when the part came in to schedule an appointment.
I received a call that needed part was in. The Company representative on the phone advised he was the owner. I could not schedule repair appointment at that time, and advised I would call back..
I did call back. An individual answered the phone. Identified myself, and purpose of the call. individual said he did not know of the previous call as and quot;he talked to lots of callersand quot;. i mentioned that I'd talked to someone who said he was and quot;the ownerand quot;, and asked if this person was the 'owner'… His response: and quot; It was none of my business!!!!!and quot;
Being a bit nonplussed, I said, ' I don't know what your problem is, but am I am just trying to follow up and reschedule the the follow on repair.and quot;
His response: and quot;Look..!! I talk to lots of people, and I don't need to talk to a 'Mr. Jeckel/Mr Hyde' like you!!
My response: and quot;cancel the order…and quot;
I can assure all that read this, I was in no way abusive to this person.. I was only trying to work a 'mutual' schedule for the follow up repair action. No cursing.. no demanding.. no loud talk, until the end when I said, emphatically: 'Cancel this order!'…
Maybe this person was having a really 'bad day', but I have never been treated in such an and quot;unprofessional manner and quot; by any Business or Service Provider in over 50 years as a home owner…
Again, the technician was most professional and efficient.. The 'Owner' needs to go back to 'Charm/Business and Customer Relationship' school..
As you can imagine, I will never call or recommend this company to anyone...

They made an appointment and were right on time and the technician was very professional. They did a great job and didn't cost me an arm and leg. I have used A-1 through the years and never had a complaint with them. Today I'm starting to remodel my kitchen so I am going to put in a dishwasher. I called A-1 and they gave me a couple of brands to look at. Since they do a lot of dishwasher repairs I figured they would know best.
Thanks A-1...

When the correct part arrive, I called to have the service person come out to complete the work. However, the owner would not allow him to come back to fix the final part. He said he was and quot;fed upand quot;?! So, they have left me to figure things out on my own. I have never been spoken to in this disrespectful a manner by any business in my life.

My dryer drum stopped rotating. I was told it was probably a belt, so I thought maybe we could fix it ourselves. After looking at the diagram of the dryer, I decided not to even try to take it apart. I called A-1 Appliance who I found on Angie's list. Jon at A-1 appliance showed up at the time promised and was very friendly. He knew right away the dryer just need a new belt. He was able to fix it on the spot. He answered all my questions. I was very happy with the results and wouldn't hesitate to call A-1 Appliance again the next time I have a problem.

Our Kenmore Elite front load washer stopped working on Monday, 12/19 while I was in the middle of doing a load of laundry. An error code came up on the machine indicating it was a drainage problem. I found A-1 Appliance Service on Angie's List and called them the same day. John answered the phone and was extremely helpful. He said that the pump probably needed to be cleaned out and told me that if we were handy, we could do it ourselves to save some money. (I was impressed that he would make that suggestion, since it meant we wouldn't need to hire his company to do the work.) He gave me some basic instructions on what to do and my husband attempted it the same night. Unfortunately, the machine still didn't work. We called John the next morning and he told us over the phone that the pump must be broken and would need to be replaced. Again, he tried to save us money by telling us how we could order the part through Sears and replace it ourselves. (We were extremely impressed by this and knew right then that this was a company we would keep in mind in the future.) My husband and I decided to go ahead and hire A-1 Appliance Service to do the job. They gave us an estimate over the phone and, to our surprise, were able to get the part and install it the very same day! (Tuesday, 12/20)
John was the one who spoke to us over the phone each time, and he was also the technician who came out to do the repairs. He was professional, informative and helpful the entire time. He showed me the piece that was broken on the pump and left the part with me so I could show my husband. He also took the time to explain a few things to me, which I really appreciated. (He even gave me some valuable advice on what type of refrigerators and dishwashers he would recommend, since we will likely be replacing those appliances in the near future.) We would definitely recommend this company and will be using them in the future if the need arises.
Side note: We contacted Sears at one point to see what their fee would be for the repairs, since our washing machine is a Sears product. They tried to push an expensive 1-year service agreement on us, and when we said no to that, they finally told us what their flat rate labor charge would be - which was more than what we paid to have A-1 Appliance do the job. The part would have been about the same price, but with Sears, we would have paid more for the trip charge and labor.

I had A-1 Appliance out to my house two previous times for other issues with this refrigerator in the past 6 years and had confidence that they would be reliable and honest with their diagnosis, repair and fee. When I called and spoke to Larry, he was pretty sure of the problem based on my observation and put me on the schedule for the following day. John came out and checked out the refrigerator/freezer and found that it was the defrost timer that had stopped working and needed to be replaced. He gave me the price in advance and assured me that even though our refrigerator was 15 years old it was a good one and would continue to operate efficiently for years. That was a huge relief as I dreaded the thought of having to purchase a new one. John was professional, articulate, kind and honest. I felt that he gave me the best service possible. He was cheerful and positive and it was apparent that he enjoyed his job very much.

When I first called A-1 Appliance and explained the problems with my appliances they informed me of the likely causes/fixes and gave estimates of the cost to fix each of them. Later in the day the technician called to set up an appointment time. He showed up on time for the appointment. While working he explained what he was doing to diagnose the problems, explained what issues they commenly see in these and explained the fixes he was making. He was very personable and I enjoyed chatting with him as he made the repairs. I would definitely recommend and use A-1 Appliance again.

He arrived late. They failed to give us any kind of quote both over the phone and in person. So the outcome of the price was a total suprise. The service man, John, was extremely rude and had the personality of someone who takes drugs, particularly speed. After he was done he made up a price which was the first time it was ever mentioned. He conveyed how upset he was about how the money wasn't ready and how we were wasting his time. If we knew what to be prepared with price, cash, check, etc. we would have been prepared. He continued to brag that he usually gets paid $100 to just step into the door and this is a Christmas gift for us. He also mentioned how upset he was with my wife who had made the appointment really screwed him over and continued to talk about her disrespectfully. He also went the distance to summarize his feelings in a recorded voicemail and couldn't possibly be more rude. We complained to his superior but he displayed no interest. I would say he displayed absolutely no professionalism if he had not taken the 10 seconds to explain to me what was wrong and what he did. Voicemail, "Hey *****, I... thank you for.. uh.. for leaving some money. That was pretty rude of you.. uhhm... I'm... I'm alittle upset here. You... Ya know I've bent over backwards. I'm giving you a Christmas present and I'm not getting paid now? I have to explain to my boss uuuhhhmm... I'ma leave a bill you better mail a check uhhhmm... this is ridiculous... uhhmmm... later" When the job was done I came within 5mins from work to pay the guy.

As explained above, John successfully fixed my machine which has run perfectly for the past few months. This particular Jenn Aire...though costly ... has always been a problem. It has begun a different kind of noise and problem, and I am once again call A-1 because I know they will provide the best and most honest service. I have recommended A-1 to all of my friends and would not hesitate to recommend this company to the Angie's list members. This is the VERY first time I have ever been able to do that!!

I had called A-1 to look at my dishwasher that had finally stopped draining after months of progressively poorer washing. (food bits stuck on to the dishes, cloudy glasses) The technician (John, I think) first offered me some DIY suggestions over the phone and then said, but if they don't work call me back. When I called to say they hadn't worked he scheduled an appointment for the next am, narrowed the time frame window first thing in the morning and then showed up right on time (having called first to tell me he was en route). The problem was simple and he fixed it quickly. (It needed a good clean-out.) He also told me that the service fee covered up to 30 days of a repeat visit, should the initial clean-out not hold up. It has, however, and we are all enjoying clean dishes again! He was very meticulous about keeping the work area clean which I really appreciated. I'd absolutely call them again for any of my large appliances.

We installed a brand new Bosch dishwasher which had been in storage for three years, but it wouldn't run after the initial fill cycle. The person we spoke to on the phone from A-1 Appliance Services suspected the motor might only need a manual assist to get it moving after being idle for so long. Although he said they did not usually serve customers in our area, they sent someone. The initial diagnosis was correct and we were able to avoid having to pay for any parts and additional labor costs. Another company might easily have said we needed a new motor. The technician who came to the house was the same one we had spoken to on the phone. He said it was company policy to have their technicians answer incoming phone calls rather than a clerical person who's main job was scheduling. We will definitely use this company again and would enthusiastically recommend it to others.

The service call went well. The gas range repair was only cleaning the burner heads so they would ignite properly. The ice maker in the refrigerator needed replacing which was the majority of the call and expense. Several months after the ice maker was installed it failed, the company went out of their way to replace the ice maker under warantee and charged a minimal and appropriate service call. The service man also provided guidance on how to avoid problem such as we had as well as describing the strengths and weaknesses of the ice maker design. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses helps avoid future problems.
