We're in the process of getting our home ready for an energy audit (to see if we need to upgrade our heater, AC, ducts, etc. to be more energy efficient) and the company we're using for the audit recommended cleaning our chimney and fireplace prior to the inspection so that when the chimney is pressurized, we don't end up with soot all over our house! Very helpful hint, right? Since we hadn't had our chimney inspected and/or cleaned since moving into our house (August 2014), I decided to call a professional. After making a few phone calls, I decided to go with Russo's Chimney Sweep for a few reasons: (1) stellar reviews on Angie's List and Yelp, (2) punctuality in returning my phone call to schedule an appointment, and (3) extremely fair price. Sal was fantastic! He arrived early, was extremely conscientious about not making a mess in the house, and explained everything very clearly as he was performing the service. Fortunately, everything looked pretty good so the entire process only took about an hour. We will definitely be contacting Russo's Chimney Sweep for an future chimney issues!

Never cleaned the chimney and no idea how to take care of chimney. He explained the pro's and con's of different types of wood burning, fake wood burning and the advantages of using our gas insert only. His wife (books the appointments) is extremely nice and confirms appointments by phone and email. There was no mess (and our chimney was a mess!) and he was quick and very professional.

Mr. Russo was very prompt and professional. He came right in and put down his covering for the floor and began inspecting. He was also pretty quick because I had an early morning appointment and was able to be on my way to work in a reasonable amount of time. After Mr. Russo was done, he explained to me what was done and why, he showed me what needed replaced and told me how to do it myself if I didn't want to have him do it. He also recommened the best type of logs to burn and left a gas key because there wasn't one for my fireplace.

I own a condo in pleasant hill; my guess is that the chimney had not been cleaned for at least ten years, maybe more. The owner of Russo's came out and did the work himself. He was on time, did a good job and gave me useful information. I was worried about what looked like large cracks on the back panel; he explained that the spaces were supposed to be there and need not be filled in. He saved me money by not doing something that did need to be done. He saw two areas that did need to be fixed which he then fixed. I think his work was excellent and I really appreciated that he fixed two potentially dangerous problems. He charged what he had estimated the charge to be, no extra charge for the two extra things he fixed. I don't know what a normal price is since this is the first time I have had this type of job done. I do know it was worth the money and I will be having him clean my son's fireplace in his home. I recommend Russo's Chimney Sweep as a very good service.

He explained to us how to use a wood fireplace in quite a bit of detail. He explained the best way to use it, when to use and all of those things to keep it the most efficient. I liked most the time he took with us, he was very clear and gave us a lot of information.

Received three estimates in total and Russo's was the second cheapest. The cheapest didn't really give me a definite price but more of a 'it depends on the type of fireplace, etc, ...' so I went with Russo's. I'm glad I did. I called the most expensive company asking how much it would cost to seal the fireplace and they told me they would have to measure it and order a cap and it would cost well over $100! I talked to Russo and he told me that I could buy sheet metal and glue it on myself. I didn't want to do it myself so he did it for an extra $25! Awesome! We had floorers come in that day and they were ripping out the old floor so I didn't hear Russo's Chimney Sweep come to the door. It was about time he came so when I came out to the fireplace area, he had already set up station and was starting his work! once he finished he cleaned up the area and sat with me and showed me pictures of the cleaned fireplace inside and out. Pointing out and explained any spots that might be a concern if we decided to use the fireplace, including pointing out that our fireplace mantle didn't have safety code clearance - which is fine if we don't plan to use the fireplace. He also took pictures of how he glued on the sheet metal to seal the fireplace and explained how to take it off if we ever planned to reuse it. He also wrote everything down on our receipt so I wouldn't forget everything he told me!!! Great service! Definitely recommend!!!!

Sal was actually the first of the inspectors to arrive and jumped right into inspecting the chimney. He did a thorough job and even did a little cleaning. Then, he spent time helping me understand how the chimney worked, how to open and close the flue, what and what not to use in the fireplace, and pointed out the features required on a chimney. He was a lovely way to start the inspection day, alleviating much of my initial stress.

After calling a number of other sweeps (who were very UNresponsive), we found Russo's number and gave it a ring. Sal's wife (sorry I don't remember her name) was very helpful and friendly over the phone while scheduling a visit for us just a few days after our call. When Sal arrived he quickly set about inspecting our fireplace and explaining common problems related to smoke entering the home, etc. His advice was extremely valuable but his hands on work was equally impressive. Sal got up on the roof and tested the "stack" of our chimney to make sure that the structure was still solid. Apparently, chimneys can actually be condemned which can require thousands of dollars to be repaired. I didn't know this when the house was inspected and I know my inspector did not get on the roof and test the "stack", so we were very happy when Sal concluded that our chimney was very solid. After checking and cleaning a number of things on the roof, Sal returned to the interior of our home and used some putty like material to repair the missing mortar in the firebox. Sal also explained how I could do this myself if the need were to arise in the coming years. As a low level D.I.Y.er I appreciated this. Final bill about $150.00. Clean, friendly service throughout. Very pleased and would highly recommend Russo's Chimney Sweep to anyone with a fireplace. I'm gonna tell my extended family about Sal because it's hard to find decent folks like this.
