I need to qualify the rating. Penny is probably a "A" rated landscaper/arborist, and in the long term your plants will probably love the work they do. She was highly recommended by some local nurseries. But for the average homeowner the results may be a bit shocking. The "B" Ratings are a way to encourage you to stop and read this review.
She charges by the day or half day. Around $1250 for a full day plus any disposal fees, and as I recall ~$800 for 1/2 day.
Penny Rose's crew did work last fall. Some of the contracted work was not finished but I didn't realize it until the crew had left.
This visit they finished the previous work plus did additional pruning. The crew tends to dig out the dirt at the base of shrubs as this is supposed to be healthier for the plants. This was not discussed in the scope of work but just done. They do a lovely job pruning the trees. We had discussed light pruning of one limb of one tree, but instead they did a full pruning of 2 trees. They removed some of the limbs creating a privacy screen between my neighbor and myself, but I fortunately was able to stop them before all the limbs were removed -- we had not discussed pruning that particular tree.
A hedge plant that was pruned hard last year with the assurance that it would look like a full hedge by spring, currently has leaf clumps at the end of some limbs and lower limbs are bare. I'm still hoping that what she promised will eventually occur. With this in mind I asked that another hedge be pruned with a lighter touch to allow sun into the plant but leave most of the foliage in place. I think this did not get communicated to the crew because I was left with mostly bare branches. I've been assured by a local nursery that this particular variety of hedge can take such heavy pruning. It was just a shock to see the end result.
I can only have faith that what Penny promised will eventually come to pass and the hedge will eventually look better for her efforts.
We had a concrete walkway that had been made uneven by roots from a maple tree. Her crew cut one section into thirds, lifted the smaller sections without breaking them, removed a large root, and leveled the walkway. They also crowned a large maple tree that was a see-through tree that looked like a large weed. The tree is now no longer a see-through tree and looks good.
Her group is prompt, hard-working, and efficient. They provide very good value.
