His professionalism/safety was terrible. Witnessed him on several occasions doing everything (texting, taking breaks and lunches for hours each day, socializing with passer byes, sitting on his tail gate drinking a six pack before getting in his truck to leave driving through a development filled with playing children), but not focusing on job getting complete in time frame given in estimate. He claimed he could do the work and not disrupt the satellite dish. Not only did his claim fail and cost me money to have it realigned, but he only used 2 out of 6 of the bolts used to secure the dish leaving the others sitting on my chimney. I have several dents in my front gutter work where he placed his ladder to obtain roof access. It took him over 7 months to place drain spouts (which he left in my planter beds) even in the poor manor he did that (I worked doing sheet metal for 4 years). He left several scraps/garbage that he pulled off original siding in my back and front yards. He still has left my electrical boxes outside unsecured (safety) to the building and just hanging for over 7 months. Instead of cutting a hole around water fixtures he just cut out chunks of the siding around them which adds to how unprofessional the overall job looks, and then pulls out his favorite tool, the caulking gun to fill in his lack of skills. Do yourself a favor, hire someone that follows through on their word and has consistent work as well as someone who can stay within a reasonable margin of his bid. You might save some money in thought but he will increase his needs as he goes and your out of pocket expenses will compete with the guy who will do a better, more efficient, and timely job. He passed the codes on the bottom end of the scale. Maybe if you just need someone to nail up a board use him, but I after my experience (still as of 4/2010 not done), I wouldn't hire him for the simplest of tasks. It is my belief he only obtained the job through the help of the HOA management woman who pushed to use him & I would not be the least bit surprised if she didn't get some sort of payment for lining him up with the job.
Description of Work: First off the total amount is not given to the home owners for the job, just our dues being increased for the last 4-5 years by $100 to pay his constantly growing fees. He was hired and started my developments in mid 2005, it is now 2010 and he is still not done. He gave the estimate to be finished in approx a year to a year and 6 months. It is now going on almost 5 years and he is still not complete. He has taken every shortcut to increase his profit margin, replacing only the most obvious of dry rot and hiding the rest of the 20+ paneling. He has gone back for more money beyond his original estimate as well as came back after doing some work to insist that the development also pay for his insurance later. There are gaps, waves, and openings from poor prep work as well as poor measuring that he just filled with caulking. Filling gaps is understandable, but not when the gaps exceed 1/2 inch due to poor measuring/cutting. Here's a thought, hold up the board, see the gap, and then remeasure and recut so that work looks professional and clean. There are doors that go over the utility meters that he removed when he started my building. He finally reinstalled new ones over 7 months later (meanwhile rains flow into my garage as well as field mice entering looking for dry warmth and food), that are not supported and if they are leaned on or have any pressure put to them they will break or rip out the framing around the door. The doors aren't even the right size; they have approx 1/2" gap around. There are several areas where the trim is uneven due to his poor prep work (replacing panels on one half but not the other). He just attached the new siding to the old, rotted, 20+ year siding with band-aide workings to replace the most obvious dry rot, while giving termites a great deluxe living space to feed. Was "assured" by HOA his work is "quality," they forgot to add the words poor, bad, and at best child like quality. He doesn't know how to set his compressor for his nail gun either since most of the "16 penny" nails he used were sunk in more than 1/4", which adds to poor integrity which he just filled with more caulking. His caulking job was lacking as well since it is also suppose to be used to give a seamless look to the siding, but he cant even do it evenly so every seam on my home is noticeable.
