Super bad customer service. Aside from a 12-hour service call window that was completely missed, every phone call to Comcast has been a 30 to 45 minute waste of time with long holds, terse service people, and being passed from service person to service person repeatedly. Getting passed from service person to service person does not get you a higher level of technical knowledge or support; they merely repeat the same lame advice that the previous service person provided. Comcast advertises the possibility of very high download speeds but I have measured download speeds of 12-15 Mbps pretty consistently over the past two years. Although their advertising may factually be true in a small amount of cases, I find it to be misleading.
Due to the consistently awful service from Comcast Xfinity over the past two years I decided to drop their services. There is no ability to terminate services on their website. You must call a human during working hours Monday through Friday. My first call to terminate services did not work. Services were not turned off. With my second effort I was told that I would have to pay a $30 fee to terminate service. Unbelievable! Bad service and then a charge for termination. With quite a bit of back and forth I was able to get Comcast Xfinity to drop the charge. I have not seen my final bill yet, so I am not sure if this has happened.
What am I going to do now? While I was stranded at home during my 12-hour service window I did much research on eliminating cable. I found a device called a Google Chrome Cast that allows me to stream content from a wireless network into my television. The hardware cost $35 and I signed up for AT&T's internet service. The monthly cost for AT&T's highest tier of internet service is $45 per month. They answered the phone promptly and gave me a two hour service window which was met. AT&T's service has so far provided a consistent download speed of 20 Mbps. The Google device is working well too. This new setup saves me almost $100 per month, and gives me an unbelievable amount of satisfaction in eliminating Comcast Xfinity from my life.
